Pretty sure you can have your choice of color mixed, but from what I've read, most if not all paint stores agitate the paint to mix it which will play hell with bubbles unless you let it sit for about a week.

I would take it home, let it stand for a day or so, get some decent mixing cups and thin down a couple quarts, seal them up and let those sit. They will be much easier to mix by hand when your ready to roll. One method I use to "stir" mine is to have another mixing cup handy and slowly pour from one into the other, back n forth several times, rather than stand there for 5 minutes stiring with a stick.

May also try and find a rattle can color with a pretty close match.

Duplicolor makes some good enamel that could probably be used for this method, just a little more expensive.

I think you can blend colors, but you'd want to be sure and blend enough to do the whole job at the start.

Here's the page for all of the enamel colors:
http://www.rustoleum.com/product.asp?fr ... d=18&SBL=1

If you wanted an extremely dark blue, I'd mix Navy and Gloss Black to get to the color desired...

And look, the have a DIY bedliner coating! I might have to try this!

So now I know where the term 'rust bucket' comes from. had a little lag time after painting this evening, so I thought I'd give the interior a good looking over. Yanked out the seat, belts, & floormat.

Found a few holes rusted thru the floorpans, both side. Fixed them with some sheet metal and panel bond after wire brushing and a good coat of rust converter.

Then stood back looking at my raged old rubber floor mat, and decided I wasn't putting that thing back in. So off to Advanced Auto, came back with a bedliner kit, did the whole tub... I kinda like it, at least now I can hose it out if I ever want a good cleaning :).

By the way, I have 2 side kick panels(pretty decent shape) I no longer want, any takers? pm

Damn. Look what I started! This is awesome. That red almost looks orange in a couple of the pics. Did you use the Rustoleum bed liner kit for your interior? I was going to use Herculiner for the floor in my drag car but I dont like the gritty crap in it.

:)

Yeah the flourescent lighting and my crappy flash make it look orange here and there, but it's bright red.

I couldn't find the rustoleum bedliner kit, used 3 cans of Duplicolor spray on, easy to control & dries quick, curious to see how it holds up under foot. will also add some floor mats to help protect it. Think I prefer it to a roll on, so many nooks, crannys, & recessed edges in there, a roll on might be a pain in the arse.

I am officialy a wet sand and 2 coats away from being done, then I will wait a week or 3 and buff it all out.

I'm happy to announce... the paint job is finished!!! Turned out 100x better than I expected.

Total of 10 coats, last coat looks great, now reassembly, few touch up around the windshield rubber, let it cure for a few weeks and buff a good shine into it. Then park it in the garage and never drive it :D

will post some pics after reasembly.

Ok...... sigh, I knew this was all going to well. Murphy finaly reared his ugly mug. Got everything put back on, put the bumper and grill in the bed, plan was to back it out of the garage and let it dry some it the sun... engine no start, cranks but no fire... off to Autozone for a new coil and condenser.... my best guess.

Anyone else have any ideas?

New coil & condenser...still nothing. I did notice while I was cranking at one point the + battery post made a litle pop and a tiny puff of smoke.

Have checked for spark from HT lead to block... no sparks.

Could this be points?

All seems kind of ironic, since my MSD system arrives Monday.

The LUV that my buddy just bought seems like the relays that go to the fuel pump don't work. There is an added switch that has a wire that runs to the fuel pump, and the condincer on the coil. You could try directly applying power to the coil and fuel pump and see if it works.

I am just assumeing the problem with my buddys LUV are his relays. Tomorrow, I'm going to swap his relays with mine and see if the condincer and fuel pump get power through the factory wiring.

Whew...it was points!

Fired her up, backed into the yard and finished the reassembly. The paint looks awesome, now I wait a couple week to let it harden well, then tape off and repaint the black "skirts" around the bottom. After that, buff it all out.

Here's the latest shot. Sorry for the sun glare, had a few more, but the camera batteries died.

I got locked out of the site for awhile :( - had to reregister but it's all good now :D .

DUDE!! That red truck looks orsum!! If you don't mind my asking, how much did the paint job set ya back?

VG job 79-LUV'r. Wish mine came out that good.
Be sure to post some done pix back in the original thread on the Moparts board. I know I had to see a few before I believed.
The latest find is TopSecretCoatings 1 part epoxy in over 100 colors @ $15/qt.
I never did do a final wetsand/polish/wax. It's pretty shiny as it is.
I may sand out a little orange peel on the top and hood & roll on 1 last THIN coat to improve things before going to the wax-on/wax-off step.

Gallon of paint:(barely used half) $26
2 cans Rustoleum safety red spray $8
2 cans Mineral spirits: $11
rollers & 2 small touch up brushes: $8
Shop towels: $4-5
Sandpaper: $12-15
3 cans Duplicolor liner spray $21

Rust converter, tape, body repair stuff I already had on hand.

Total, probably just over $100...and lotsa time, but I enjoyed every minute of it :)

Sent Martin(Orange Charger guy), the creator of that thread on Moparts, a thank you and some results pics. Gotta big thumbs up on the finished job! :)

Asked him about buffing, he said he usualy buffs after an overnight dry time, can do it anytime after that, just easier while the paint is still 'soft'.

Wonder what I'll be doing this evening?

Here's a preview of the buffing taken with my cell.

Notice the overhead light reflection in the first shot, the second shows a little of the surface before buffing in the lower section of the frame.

Hope to be finished this week.

Im sure this stuff is tough as anything, but Ive wet sanded epoxy primer before and it sucks. I cant help but think epoxy paint would be just as tough to sand on.
