I went to pull some rear drums of my buddies 73 ghia. THere is a big nut that holds it on (besides the lug nuts). I got the nut off and then took a rubber mallet and hit around the drum, but the drum is still on there good!
All I can think of doing is using a brake spoon and looseing up the brake shoes. Any suggetions?

Yes. back off the shoes with the adjuster in the back.
Maybe some penetrating oil around the splines where the nut was.
And safety glasses when hitting it. My step bro. lost an eye doing that!
