Well, as some of you may know, I have a plan to put a 75 Luv stepside body on a 82 Toyota 4x4 chassis and drivetrain. I have finally gotten started and want to document the build with lots of info and pictures.

First off, I have pictures of the Toyota donor truck. Run of the mill 1982 shortbed 4x4

Here is the 1975 Luv truck donor.

So far, I have the body off of the Toyota. I am wire-wheeling and brushing all the grime and old paint out of every nook and cranny of the frame. These pictures are before I started cleaning.

Dig this shock 8O .

Thats it for now. More updates to come.

@ 3/4 of an inch difference. The LUV is longer. I plan to compensate for this with a Zero Rate Leaf which will offset the rear 3/4" to the rear.

Raining today so no updates till tomorrow.

Ok, here is a little teaser for you...

Image

:smt023

Before you get too critical, please remember that the body is just setting on the frame and the front fenders are also just setting. The door-fender gap will close slightly more than is showing. I will be using 3" of body lift built into my mounts. The body will be about 1.5-2" lower than it is now so there won't be so much frame showing. I will be using 32 or 33" tires on the truck and will lift it until I think it looks good. I would imagine about a 4" lift will work. I like alot of tire-fender clearance  . FYI, the tires you are seeing now that are for rollers are 24.5" tall 8O

I have decided to cut my Luv frame down and make a trailer out of it with the fleetside bed. I have been trying to give away a perfectly good motor and trans but since no 0ne wants them, i will use my new trailer to haul them to the metal recycler. :(

The bent shock is starting to grow on me, maybe I'll leave it

Stay tuned!

the swap is looking good... very creative and a good choice of drivetrain. toyo's are solid as hell. i think that's messed up about the motor and tranny... i figured someone would have jumped on those. if mine had early style stuff in it, i would have been all over that. when you get your swap done.. throw up a post about what ya got left over and maybe some of us can help clear out your mess... :D

Thanks. The reasons for using the Toyota was the wheelbase being so close, The aftermarket support for engine and drivetrain is enormous, and, like you said, solid and reliable to no end.

I have 2 ways of going now with my body mounts. The first way would be to cut and weld the mounts into the proper postion. The other is to make the mounts bigger, and design them to be 100% bolt-on. The only reason I consider the larger bolt-on mounts is that I can make a blueprint and jig, then offer those plus every other piece needed for this swap and market it as a 100% bolt-on kit. Alot of people can't or don't have access to cutting and welding equipment. This would be geared toward them. That way, some more Luv bodies will be saved by Toyota owners who want to be different  . What do you all think?

Man, engine and trans to the crusher! Someone should grab that. Did you post an ad in the Classified section? Too bad I live in So Cal or I'd grab that as a spare for my '75.

Ok, I'm starting with the rear cab mounts and working forward. Here are a couple pics to show how far off the stock mounts are between Toy and Luv with the cab in proper position on the frame. These are taken at drivers rear corner. Ratchet is in cab bolt hole for reference.
