Anybody remember the name of the company who made this grill?

I bought this grill in 1988 but forgot the name of the company. Is there anyone else out there who makes these chrome jewels?

... Awwww maaan...... and so True.. The headlights were in a Stamped metal shell with limited adjustability, but adjustable. And Much brighter! The Chrome plating was superb. I guess most chrome that comes from Cali is almost flawless. I can make the grill and probably can Mod some headlight buckets but getting a decent chrome finish would be $$$$$ Quite costly.
I think I paid $249 for that grill back then..I know it wasn't cheap. But worth it once I saw the craftsmanship.
I guess all those companies like Hottops, Snugtop, California Stepside etc...
Fall to waistside just like anything else thats FAD driven..I think the Rice Cars invaded the minitrucks. Chopped Channelled negative ground clearance mods made the average truck show unatentable to most Novice "Do it yourselfers". I know I got tired of competing against "Non Driven, Trailered, Pampered, Garaged" trucks. You couldn't win. Thats what kicked me out of Minitruckin. At least the Show side of it. My trucks were daily driven. I had to. Thats how I advertised.

Snugtop is still around, and I would say it isn't FAD driven, it is more the evolution of the automoblie IMO.

I know the feeling. I got out of showing about 15 years ago for the same reason.

Too many doctors, bankers, stockbrokers, and lawyer types were paying restoration shops big bucks to do everthing, and then paying them to store and trailor their cars and trucks to the shows for them.

A do-it-yourself'er with a daily driver didn't stand a chance against the darn yuppie scumbags. Most of them couldn't even drive their own cars and trucks, and the same few guys with real deep pockets were constantly winning everywhere.

And now for the last 10 years, the shows around here are starting to fill up with pimped out ricers more and more too...so I don't even like to go to them much any more.

Now my '78 stepside Luv is headed towards being a well-done clean-looking rat rod, with very little bling and just enough power to make me happy. And I go to meet-n-greet's with some of the old-timers around here once in a while...but even they don't get together very often any more.

Man...I sure do miss showing my backyard-created stuff back in the old days...

Same thing in the big rigs. Used to be "working truck contests and shows".
Now the are works of art, never had a dirty boot in them, and they get "best of show", and they have a small working class trophy for the real trucks. There are also the guys who take delivery on a brand new truck , fix it up and show the same week. Of coarse it's exceptionally clean. But now they get put into their own class also. Like under 20.000 miles class.

Well....it doesnt bother me, I go to shows to show off my work and what I built. I luved hearing the comments spectators would make about my truck both good and bad. Trophies are nice but they dont mean much to me, esp as it is near impossible to have a fairly judged show. I have been to many shows where I should have won and didnt and won many I shouldnt have. I also enjoyed making those people who paid to have their vehicles put on the spot by asking how they did this or that and getting a blank stare back. I understand not everyone that enjoys the sport can do alot of the stuff that some of us can so they have to pay someone else to do it. Personally if I was on that end, I would find another hobby, but everybody is different. The things I hated about showing was getting classed in completly wrong class with vehicles I shouldnt be competing against thanks to clueless show promoters. BUT the main thing I hated was not the store bought show vehicles, it was the people who got thier vehicles built by alternate means. Meaning, when I first started, there was this orange Isuzu PUP that I knew every time it was at the same show as me, I knew I was getting 2nd at best. Granted, it wasnt my taste (Lowrider style) but it was a very nice truck, the thing I despised was I always lost to a vehicle that was built by DRUG MONEY! At least those other guys got thier trailer queens by an honest hard working living. And I got to be honest but next time I build my truck, it probably will be a trailer queen, my truck has 140,000 miles on it and it deserves to be hauled to whatever show unless it is local as you still got to drive them when you can!

Yeah...I hear ya Tilted.

We used to have a few local drug dealers that showed, but eventually they would get all of their stuff siezed and sold at auction by the cops when they all got busted.

It used to really tick me off though when I would get up real early, drive my car or truck miles to enter some local small show, get it all polished up and set up my stuff, and sit and babysit it all day to protect it for nothing.

Because go figure.. the local judges would always give the biggest trophy and prize to one of their local buddies from the same car club that was sponsoring the show, whether the guy's car or truck was any better than mine or not.

But in spite of all the BS drama and "good old boy" local favoring, it still was a lot more fun before the yuppie trailer queens and the ricers invaded and took over.

At least you could hang out after the shows at a local watering hole or coffee shop with the other do-it-yourself'ers to swap stories and customizing tips.

Now you would have to drink imported bottled water or red bull with the yuppies...or drink sake and eat sushi with the ricers - all for nothing...lol
