I was able to cut out the offending piece and replace it with new metal with a flux core mig.

keep in mind that fiberglass is not water proof. i have built and repaired boats too many years not to know this is true. what keeps the water out is howw well it is coated. bare resin WILL absorb water.

didn't say it wont work, it just has to be coated with something that is waterproof.

I would prefer metal doing ground up would like the repairs to last and look good. I was told that a mig weld- wire feed. would not hold I do have a few places to repair not sure if its worth buying and learning or paying someone to do the job. Any ideas on cost to buy and what or what people charge.

I had one bad spot on the drivers side. I cut out a square hole. then took a piece of sheet metal and ribbeted to the floor. Then I sanded the whole floor and painted on some Por-15. Since I was covering the entires floor with a vinyl mat, I figured you aren't going to see the patch job.

you were told a mig weld wire feed wouldnt hold? I can tell you that is a load of crap right there. I use a miller 175 with .023 wire and gas for all my body work. Most good repair shops use the same thing. Get some scrap tin from the metal yard and use a mig with gas. Dont use flux core, you have to heat the metal up too hot to get the core to melt and that ends up warping your panels (even if it is on the inside).

I had some rust areas on the floor boards (drive/passenger sides) I patched them w/new sheetmetal and brasined welded it. After that I sprayed primer over it, seamed sealed around the weld, then undercoated it. Worked out awesome!

I did mine with POR-15. Wow, I did the whole floor with it, and patched up a couple holes on the passenger side. It looks real good. I'm waiting on the liner from RockAuto, and then I will put my mats down, so that's that!

Bob, not making sport of you, I like those local sayings. But seriously, what is a billyo? I know I can't be the one inquiring mind.
