Hey,

I found this post when searching for dual wheels for my 1980, just wondering where this project is at?. Its a pretty old post so hopefully this has been completed.

I'm looking to do a dual wheel conversion on mine as well as make a flat bed dump, if anyone has helpful info please let me know.

Right now my focus is on the dual wheel part. I guess I could do the adapters but it would be nice to beef up the whole rear end. My final goal is to add a v6 or a diesel of comparable size. Its an automatic and I will have to check the trans #, I completely rebuilt it about 3 years ago so its good and strong. I'm not looking at making it a super truck just able to make it work for me. As it stands stock, I have had a almost a half ton of material in the bed and it hauls fine I added helper springs and it made a difference but I need it to be able to haul at least a pallet of brick or block around town and I think dual wheels and some suspension tweaking will achieve this.
Comments welcome
Thanks,
J.P

Probably should also put up in here what im doing as well as the other thread you started about your fuel issues.

86 4x4 space cab.

It was a bit dark and i took em with the camera in my phone.

The track match is A1 so it should handle like a bought one. Only worry ive got is the chassis join. Its not an easy thing to get approved down here. That and the lack of park/emergency brakes at the wheels. And if i dont lengthen the wheel base im going to have no room for a fuel tank.

Was going to be for the 2x4 but for $300 i couldnt go past buying the 4x4. Im going to use 2.6L running gear. I would actually like ti use a later post 88 chassis, for the bigger front diff and brakes. Will see if i can find one.

Its a work truck, i was going to V8 or V6 the 2X4, i would do it to the 4x4 but the trans and transfer case would send me broke.

Picked up the diff wheels springs and that bit of the chassis for $275. Its the same ratio as a 1 ton Isuzu and its out of a little Isuzu truck with the 14" rear wheels.

Bob.
