alrighty.... i have the engine running on the stand as we speak....

i'll be posting a key to where all the wires go from the 2.8's quick disconnect into the luv's stock wiring harness. time to fab a set of mounts.
maybe when i'm done i'll do a writeup on this subject.

luv 5 spd locked up on him, so now he's pulling engine from an s-10 blazer and stuffing the 2.8l into the luv with the tbi and all the smog stuff in an attempt to get smog legal.

nope........i guess i should've mentioned at the beginning, that i yanked the front end out of another 2wd luv upper control arms to knuckes and will be replacing and straightning the broken parts in the 80 2wd i wrecked.

the crossmember that got toasted was the one between the lower front suspension, the tortion bar and tranny mount crossmember just got dinged up pretty good.

i have bigger plans for my 4x4.......

here we go.......

Image

here's the sitting positin, as you can see i've choped the front clip a bit. more for a bigger radiator than fittiment issues. i'll be welding a new clip from some body steel i scored.

i'm keeping the charging system from the blazer since it's one wire......

however i had to chop the battery tray for the alt and smog pump to clear.

Image

the motor doesn't really line up to the stock mount pads........here's the position. i've allready designed the mount plates, but alas, i do not have a scanner to post them.

Image

i'm having one problem..... the motor sits too high. i won't be able to align the transmission if i install the motor first. i think i've found a way around this, but i'll have to wait for the machine shop to open on monday.

here's the wiring key from the disconnect at the firewall. if you remove the harness yourself(donor vehicle), pull the fusebox out of the way and cut all the wires aprox 10" from the disconnect. i've eliminated all the unnessary wiring from the harness already.

a-1 stop switch(auto trans, unneeded for a 5spd) : a-2 voltmeter

b-1 to computer(diag harness, inside vehicle): b-2 to ignition fuse 20A

c-1 2 leads, run side of ign switch and keyed hot to fusebox: c-2 12volt to cpu 10A fuse, keyed to run position

d-1 2 leads, direct headlight power, to secondary lighting fuse: d-2 oil press gauge

e-1 to fuel pump: e-2 temp gauge

f-1 check gauge light : f-2 main hot from batt/alt combination

g-1 12volt to computer, fuzed 10A ,batt: g-2 upshift light(unused)

h-1 2 leads from start position of ign switch to engine via clutch start, to start positon of fusebox: h-2 start signal to computer fused @ 3A

all wires to lights and meters are ground side meaning they are supplied power from a 20A fuse and then connect to the harness

Will the pinion angle be close enough with the fabbed mounts? Or are you going to change the rear axle soon after and match it to the motor setup? From the pic, it gives the illusion that the front of the motor will be pointing up somewhat. If need be, using wedges at the leaf springs could get the pinion angle within 3 degrees. My truck made a howling noise with over 10 degrees misalignment. You might want to look in to that before you get to commited to the motor mounts.

it's all cool. i don't have the trans bolted to the engine yet so it sits in the bay leaning back. all in all the level line from crank to talishaft has only changed by 3/8", i want to lower the engine a bit(2") but i think i'd need to alter the trans cross member too.

i was having an issue with the height of the engine when it sits level though, i'm probably gonna need a hood scoop to make enough clearance for the air cleaner. i have 2 1/2" i can go down, but that would require custom motor mount brakets on the engine. the mounts are the pin through bushing type and there's room to re drill them to lower em about an inch, but if i'm gonna do that i want to go all the way. either way i'll still be using the plates (eventualy i'll be welding legs where they overhang the old mount blocks).

BTW.......i'm swaping the blazer rear in also.....
