Well, I bought 2 carbs for the LUV from a guy that has a 4x4 79' LUV, he said that when the log carrying trucks in at a timber cutting site used to get stuck in the mud that they used his truck to tow them out and suprisingly it didn't take much time to get them unstuck.

As for hoping up the LUV motor, I suggest going with a header and a glass-pack muffler, changeing the air filter to a K&N and then putting a larger sized cam in for a little more bottom end torque. Now if your really wanting more power you can get larger pistons for it if you bore out the cylinders a bit for more horse power, and you could get your ports polished and maybe you could make your own weird cold-air-intake for the truck too.

I do know that you can get body lifts for the LUV, it's just i don't know the max tire heigth you can put under them.

I just mentioned it in another post, but 31x10.5 tires should fit with 3 inches of body lift, about that in suspension lift, and a little trimming on the front fenders. They might fit a bit better with wheels that set them in somewhat, but that is hard to tell without trying a variety of wheels.

the biggest body lift i have seen is a 3"er. Then theres the shacle lift where you just make the rear sprin shacles longer (i have that on my truck) As far as fabbing your own body lift a buddy of mine did that on his Toyota and its not too hard, but i would rather buy the kit. Then how fast will a stock LUV go, right now i can get mine to top out at 100mph on level ground and it ran a 17second 1/4 on 28" all terain tires. But i have also have more done to my motor than most.

Good question...

MEPR... do you have any resources for headwork/cams/boring etc? I have a weber 38/38 that I got here as well as an ol school hooker header courtesy of Ben.

I am looking into getting an ol 1.8l and punching the cylinders out for larger ones, trying to get the crank stretched, and having the head done. has anyone ver done that here? By The Way does anyone knpw if a crossflow head fits on the 72-75 block?

Thanks for you input evryone

regarding body lifts: Its a personal opinion thing. You lift whatever will get you bigger tires on, tires = ground clearance. I don't mind using a body lift to get that as long as they are not too drastic. 3 inches is the most I've seen in a kit and as far as I'd go. More just makes a lot of hacking work to get the shifters to work, tweaking and welding on the steering shaft, at the extreme end brake lines even need to be changed. I've seen a couple home built ones that were much higher than 3 inch though. For example, here is one from the gallery that has too much body lift:

This pic says it all:

Yes friends that is daylight between the rocker panel and the frame, lots of it. Keep in mind that the frame normally tucks in behind the rocker panel, and can't really be seen. Take a look at this one for an example of stock with no body lift:

I'm just guessing, but that first one must have close to 8 inches of body lift. It must be a long reach down to shift gears... or a long throw between neutral and anything.

That post was from almost 3 years ago. I think Ben tried to contact him but never could get up with him.

Right after I posted that re: Johnog... I thought to myself, he prolly just had a really good machine shop in his area that wasn't afraid to step out on a limb and do the damn thing.

I have a weber and heder and will eventually put together a rockin little 1.8l... that is after many more hours of Luvtruck.com study and tutilage. I know what he is talking about though, so I you like you can just email me meangreen.

Thanks drummerforhire.

p.s. suspension lift is always the better way to go... because you are actully gaining suspension travel rather than just cosmetically altering the truck.
