whats in the 75? the toy motor? heck if it runs put it in the luv and put some tbi on it so you can get some milage.

you should put it in the luv and make it run on propane. here, if you run on propane, your emmisions exsempt. then you can do all kinds of stuff to the motor and never have to pass emmissions.
my dads buick toyota runs on propane and it does really good.

arent you in cali? if its a 75 it doesnt have to get smogged anymore anyway right? Put the 305 in the truck is my vote.

i think the 305 has like 150hp. the hp rating depends on the year too.

i'd build the 305 mildly and put it in the LUV.. some 416 casting heads ported a bit and a tpi setup and you'd have a decent performer. Nothing huge but a fun street truck.

how does the milage keep going up? i think im missing something. when i was talking about the FI i was talkin about throttle body injection. like a stock truck or something. the TPI or tuned port injection is great but just a bit pricy for the parts. you can talk to Wicked Mayhem about the tpi though. he put it in his 305.

the big problem with 305's basically is that they don't breathe well.. a good set of ported heads with increased valve size 1.84/1.60 would do wonders, throw on a good set of headers and a matched intake carb and youo should be doing alright in a light little truck. I've been readin up over on thirdgen.org on engine buildup and there's a lot of 305 info there. Some stuff would apply for yours... and the classifieds might helo also.

hey can you put 4 inch bore heads on a 305. like some ported 2.05 1.64 heads. i know that the 305 has a 3.74 inch bore, so you might have a shelf in the chamber, but if you put some strong internals i the motor and with the big chambers you could put alot of boost to it. you would think so, eh?

for a budget builder the 1.84/1.60 is a good move. the crap heads won't flow enough to see the engine's potential but there are a few good stock cast iron heads designed for the little 305 that work good. if you want to throw money into it, i like the 335 stroker kit from powerhouse in bakersfield. minimal machine work and a 65-90 hp increase, some afr 185 heads ported, big crane cam, stock tpi with some 30 lb injectors, a little prom tuning and you'll be golden.

but i digress...

i personally think your money would be better spent elsewhere than on aluminum heads. for the cost of the aluminum heads you could get a good stock casting head and a tpi setup and perhaps even more. I'd check some of the third gen f-body sites along with other sites such as for the monte carlo body style. There's a lot of good info out there on getting some performance increases out of 305's. The big issue if you go TPI is the electrical side. wicked mayhem did a tpi on his truck and can perhaps provide some info on that side of things. if it were mine, i would do a stock bottom end, 061 or 416 head with bigger valves, an L98 cam edelbrock performer intake, and a good carb, set of headers, a msd ignition setup and a turbo 350 and you should be all set. decent performance, not too expensive and pretty reliable.. can't speak for the milage part but it should be fairly good considering the light load the motor will be pulling.

These are good 305 heads to use for increase compression(14022601...80-86...267V8 / 305 V8......1.72"/1.5" or 1.84"/1.5" valves, 53cc chambers)They are real common on the 267 Chevy V8 put in some Camaro's and Malibu's etc. These also wook good but have 58cc chambers 14014416...80-86...305..........1.84"/1.5" valves, 58cc chambers
The 601's or 416's can be fitted with 1.94/1.60 valves. It's a good idea to un-shroud the intake valves just alittle. These heads work better if ported.
The 2.02 intake valves will hit the block on the small bore of a 305.With flat top pistons the compression will be around 9 / 9.5 to 1.You can stroke the 305 on a bugget by:using a 400 crank turned down on the mains to fit the 305/350,use stock lenth 5.565 400 rods and use the any 305 piston(flat top, dish, dome).More commonly known as a short rod stroker.
Just my opinion, everyone has their own way.You can gather all the info and build it the way the best fits your needs.

Thanks

Hey Nelson, sorry I had to leave earlier...

That cam looks good, just watch your gearing. 4.56 or 4.10 gears might be a little low for driving down the highway. Use Richmond's gear calculator and try to figure it out to where 75-80 miles per hour would get you around 2700-3200 or so RPMs.

http://richmondgear.com/streetcalculators.html

I think blue meanie has 2.75:1 in his. With 26 inch tall tires, that works out to 2850 Rpms at 80mph. Perfect!

The stock 4.56 gears at 80mph would be about 4700 Rpms. That's a little high for my tastes.

Good luck. I'm no expert, but I hope it helps.
