I have just ordered a fuel cell from summit with the 0-90 sender in it. My question to you guys is what is the likly hood the oe fuel gauge in say a 82 luv or in my case an 84 pup will be compatible?

I was wondering about this not becasue I plan on using the stock gauge for long, just while my truck in under construction. I will buy a autometer electric gauge but I am not quite ready to start working on the interior of my truck quite yet.

any ideas?

if it doesn't work it is no biggie, I have only put $5.00 worth of gass in it since I have owned the truck....which has been since last summer.

from what I understand, fuel senders work off of ohms....why don't you fill the original tank up with some kind of fluid and check the ohms across the connections?

You don't even have to fill it with fluid. The summit tank senders are removable and work by a float pull the sender out and connect ohms meter, move the float up and down. should have a higher resistance at the top of the float and lower at the bottom. Then you know your range. All you have to do then is find out what the factory resistences are and go from there. Hope this helps?

stock should be 0-2 ohms full and 135-165 ohms at empty.

yeah mate, dont get your $hit hot....... My meter is a piece and only reads continuity. All of my extra cash is going into the suspension right now so I didn't want to have to go out and buy yet another tool for something I dont really even need to use (the gas gauge) right now.

And thanks to Diarmadhim we all now have an answer, thanks bro, I appreciate it!
