I've been doing some reading on here and found that i can use a 5 speed from a newer model Isuzu. However, I find myself in the awkward position of not being able to find something locally. My question is this, what other 5 speed transmission can I install without too much fuss? I was already thinking of dropping a 2.3 4cyl and T5 combo from my brother's donor S10, but i dont want to have to do the entire engine if I do not have to.

Any thoughts?

Have you tried car-part.com? They may have something within reasonable driving distance. Any '88-'94 2wd w/ 2.3 engine should work. You may also need the drive shaft, I think the splined portion that goes into the tranny may be different than a LUV, and the differential yoke on a LUV is smaller than on a later pickup. The 5spd is the same length as the 4spd, but if the tailshaft splines are different your LUV drive shaft won't work- will have to combine the two shafts.
