The spring pad wont be in the right spot on that diff. You cah have a go at fittin it if you want.

You will be messing with the brakes, rear discs is different to rear drums and you need a different master cyl. Have a look around this has been covered in the forum.
So has replacing the std diff. Anything up to 87 or so will work ok. Just the e brake cables etc are different. But you can pull the third memeber and swap it.

If you hunt around theres a few different ratios.
the Impulse with the 5 link rear end has the same centre in a 3.9 ratio. LSD in manual cars.
But these are not a real strong diff. OK behind a 4 cyl but anything bigger it will just break.

so basically i could swap the third member, and the axel ends to disk and it will workout for me?

and why would i have to change the master cylinder, is the pressure different or the mass of fluid.

You might be able to swap the brakes, not sure on that. Would be a lot easier to swap the diff. The disc brake diff is larger.

Pre 87 are one size and after that it is a bigger diff.

Drums and discs work differently. Different fluid amounts etc so you need the right master cylinder.

Theres no point messing with upgrading the rear brakes unless you have done something better than the standard front brakes.

Lets go right back to the start. Is your rear end noisy on the road???

Be careful because the axle width is wider on the Amigo and the troopers. I use the rear disc brakes off a Amigo to do my swap. But I did measure the rearend width and it was 1-2" wider that the stock luv rear. Which would not work for me.

i don't think it would matter if the rims stick out .5" 1" further but will the pads line up? i can move the spring pads but don't want to.

and i have 4.10 i belive (aug/1979 4x4)

1-2" on each side!!! for the Amigo depending on the year of the Isuzu. The trooper was even wide than that.

(bump) i don't care to terriable much about width just need a rear axle that won't spew forth gears when i need it most. and limited slip would be totally rightious with disk brakes to go with the trooper disk swap i hope to afford soon.

You need to use the Amigo rear if you want the disc setup. The Trooper rear calipers are bigger and will require alot more brake pressure / fluid. This might cause you problems with the stock master from the Luv. Use the Amigo because the rearend is not as wide and the calipers are smaller. The Amigo has Disc from the factory. You will have to weld pads on either rearend.

The Amigo is not as narrow as the Luv @ 54" but if your not worried about the width being off 1"-2" then start looking for a 1994 up. The (3) that they had in the yard by me was 1993,1994,1996 I would go with the 1994 model with the v6 because it had the disc. The 1993 did not have the disc setup on the rear?

You cant just put any width axle in.

It will upset the vehicle dynamics if you drastically change the track. If you make it wider you will make it understeer worse.

But then americans in general have never been to worried about going around corners or stopping in a hurry.

i agree on the concrete part but do you really think it will change the effect that much? i mean a few inch's wider overall?
i'm not sure but i wouldn't think it to drastic.
