yes there was a 5sp gas in 83/85 with the 1.9L and 4sp with the 1.9L
granted a gassier with a 5sp and 1.9L stock is rather rare.

as to 81/82 hmm good queston, if thers a gas with a 5sp.

in 86 when the 2.3L came out and the 1.9L became a 2wd 4speed only model.

its the last isuzu to get the 17 spline trans, in 86/87 and its a 4sp.
in no case is a trans bolted to a 1.8L or 1.9L an up-grade 26 spline trans

OK, now I know.
So now the OP must count tailshaft splines.
