Ah.. The top end-bottom end question. If you know for certian that a set of heads were in solid shape, i can see someone bolting them down to a solid working shortblock that has it share of miles on it.
But you must be comfortable with the parts and trust the seller.
Rebuilding a set of heads and installing them on a working motor will cause the lower end to wear even faster. And visa versa, a rebuilt shortblock with used heads will cause the heads to fail faster than usual.
Strengthen the top end, the bottom end will have problems
Strengthen the bottom end, the top end will have problems.
Gasket scrapings would have clogged the pickup screen and finer material would have been caught by the oil filter. If the crank got plugged up with crap, he had something major go bad.
Study those heads carefully.
