i just got a 1977 luv with a stepside bed that had just started a swap to a 1976 buick 231 out of a sklark with a th350 tranny the motor is
bolted in with motor mounts and tranny mounts but needs plumping and wiring done and a drive line it still has the luv rearend. i also own a 1980 luv mikado 4x4 the motor runs good and i think it would be real easy to put in. any ideas wuold be great i dont know anything abought the v6 ive only worked on 4cyl. is it worth the rest of the swap? or is the 4 cyl a better idea i do plan on baggin the truck.

check the numbers it looks like a 78 block even fire but could be a end of run 77 odd fire but the number doesn't match a 76 odd fire block.. i will be doing this swap soon but with a 5sp ...look at these numbers so you know what motor you have if you have to order parts

Hey Ctmandu, what 5sp trans are you going to use for that swap. Lookin to do the same with my 78, but lookin for a newer engine. Maybe 3800 out of an 02 Camaro.

Wouldnt a T5 be easier???

dirtyluv, you might as well do it, youve got the big bits and thats a major part of it.

No way the motor out of the 4x4 will go anywhere near as good as the V6.
There are a few real easy bigger 4cyl conversions. A lot of newer 4cyl Isusu are an easy fit.

Bob.

I would check with Summit Racing. I have gotten alot of parts for my race truck from them and they have treated my real good. They have free shipping but a $10.95 handling charge. I bet they would have parts for your engine.

Thanks. The pictures on the website are older pics so the truck has been updated a little. Your truck looks good too. I like Summit. Last summer the daughter, wife and I took a family trip out east and I had to stop at Summit. Pretty awesome store.

What happened to the good old days when the torque specs for the gaskets were on the packets they came in.
