The first thing i know for fact is that you can go from g180(1.8l) to g200(2.0l), other options include 2.3l(4zd1) and 2.6l(4ze1), and if am not mistaken then the parts of these engines can be interchanged(head/block/manifolds), this also includes me theory on using the 2.6 EFI intake for a dual carb setup(the lower section has 2 openings that appear as if they could be modified to put dual carbs on it). I dont know much about the transmitions, or rear-ends that can be added to them, and any more extensive information on these would be greatly appreciated, once i have all this info and feel the info i already have is complete i am going to write up a page on my website that is divoted to to the 4cyl upgrades complete with total defiinitions and pictures/drawings. So as i said any and all info anyone has on this sublect would be great....
Thanks,
-Dustinicus

Just outta curiosity...
how does a Luv 1.8 handle dual carbs? Fisrst off, I'm certainly not a 100% gearhead, it just seems all that fuel would drown the little 4 banger?

Do a mild portjob to the heads, add headers and msd ignition, and you should be fine.

so as i was saying, i want to get all the information that anyone has on the upgrade/replacement of the g180 i know the 2.6l will fit in there, but i wanna know where exactly to get it out of, and and other info people have on such things as a turbo MPI system, i am working on a complete guide to engine upgrades, and if successfull the i plan on building this upgrade onto my truck, then once i have all the bug worked out im going to publish it(kinda) and put it out in the world via personal website, cardomain, and luvtruck of coarse so please any and all info on engine parts lists, upgrades, exact transmitions, rear-ends (that will fit without chopping and tweaking the h311 out of the stock mounting places)
thanks again

and a bright imagination would greatly help too. :smt033

May want to include a small section on eliminating the crappy points or contact breaker ignition. Pertronix & Crane offer severl nice solid state options available for just about any engine. From what I've read, it's the best way to go.

I am running on MSD 5200 + points for now. Will add a Pertronix set next month or after I burn up this new set of points, whichever comes first :)

You might burn up points everytime you start your truck, but you look damn nice doing it!!

Have you thought about grabbin' a dizzy out of an 82 LUV? There are no points in them. I know there are a few threads about doing this swap.

Hmm...no I hadn't considered that option, there's supposed to be a large pick n pull lot in Abilene, near me. May be visiting there soon.

Good idea, thanks troop.

I swapped a 5 speed trans out of a 1990 isuzu spacecab with a 2.6 in my '78 without having to do any cutting all I had to do was get a new driveshaft made.

The bellhousing pattern on the 1.8 2.0 2.3 and 2.6 are the same. There are differences between them like hydraulic and cable operated clutch setups but they can be converted easily from hydraulic to cable and vice versa.

Rear axles out of S10 and isuzu pickups are bolt ins.
The driveshaft configuration for each rear axle is different though so a custom driveshaft would have to be made.
