Stock Hitachi on my 77, purrs like a kitten, will run 90+ if I wanted to, and never hard to start
32/36 DGEV Weber on my 79 4x4 and it starts hard cold, plugs idle jets often, needs a complete rebuild, makes a lot of road noise, but loves to run 65+ out on the road.
32/32 DGV Weber on my old 79 4x4, manual choke was a pain but it started fine and ran a bit stronger than the Hitachi it had.
Stock Hitachi on the 80 4x4 with a 1.9L I use sometimes as a farm truck, seems to run strong especially turning 31x10.5 tires, but I've never run it on the road

For me it is a toss up between the stock Hitachi and Weber, I like the quiet and easy starting of a good running Hitachi but that is rare to find. The Weber makes too much noise for my taste but that could be helped with a different air cleaner and the power is nice when they are adjusted and running right. I think a dialed in Hitachi will run smooth in more situations, but the Weber is so easy to adjust and you can't compare the power.

im running a weber 32/32 with and electric choke. im not totoally sure if the choke works. i still havnt adjusted it for my motor. i went from a hitachi and will never go back. it does make alot of noise, but i dont really mind it. im used to ridin in a v8 luv with flowmasters, so a little carb noise it okay. but the weber made such a difference. the motor can rev higher now and it makes alot more power.

5200 Holley is a rebadged 32/36 DGA/EV Weber if I recall. I think most of the noise issue comes from the small open element air cleaner, replace that on a Weber and I think most of the problem would disappear.

nah i kinda like the symphony of racket that my truck has! Weber induction noise header whith 2" pipe to a flow master and bias ply swampers make for a sweet ride! 8)
But the weber induction noise does take a little getting used to but after a while its not too bad.

All I had to do was get the intake but had a hard time finding one so i got one off ebay from Australia for $35 and shipping to salem was $30 . no modes to the motor yet but will do a cam and it already has a pacesetter header and 2 1/2 pipe may in the end do a g200 block and my g180 head. Sorry about going on to answer your question no mods except the intake. if you want to find one look in the Australia ebay then look under Gemini

800xl your right about the 5200 holley, but the holley can be had for a lot less than a weber. last summer I got a 5200 and the air cleaner for $20.00
just have to look for it

Nothing but a Webber for me!! 32/36 DGV. They are kind of spendy...
around 400 bucks but well worth it.. I had one on me 78 two wheel drive, untill some A-HOLE stole the whole damn truck!! It had been on that truck for over 10 years!!! DIDNT DO A DAMN THING TO IT EXCEPT GIVE IT A GOOD BATH WITH CARB CLEANER AND A NEW AIR FILTER NOW AND THEN. They are a bit noisy...but what the hell!!! They run for ever!!
Oh-ya!! electric choker all the way also.
