Okay, I've recieved all my parts in the mail and I've been assembling my engine now. I was about to put new rings on the pistons when I noticed that one of the rings for each piston has sort of a bevel or groove on the outstide.

My book says nothing about this groove/bevel. So my question is: "Where should this ring go? (upper or lower) and should this groove/bevel face downward or upward? LIke I stated previously- I'm new to this. Thanks for your guys' help. As soon as I know what to do I can continue to work on it.

:D

I don't know where it goes but you should stop until you find out for sure. I do know it is VERY important that the rings go on a certain way. You did the right thing to stop. I'm sure someone here can help or tell you where to find the answers.

None of my books show that either. The last time I replaced rings that info was on the envelope the ring was in. One thing for shure the top ring (compression)wont be facing up as that would lower ratio.

I know I've read it in one of the books I have. I've been fighting with power outages for the last few days though, will have to check my books when I get home, now that I have lights again.

Your rain turned to snow up here, XL. It snowed for two straight days. Luckily, it warmed up enuf during the days to melt some off.

The rain wasn't the problem, it was the 40-50 MPH wind gusts. Though the problem with our worst outage turned out to be a poll that just leaned over a foot or so in the saturated ground and let the wires touch a few limbs. Took them 8 hours to dispatch a crew, and 3-4 more to find the problem. I found it with a crappy flashlight driving along checking the lines in about 5 minutes, reported it, lights were on 30 minutes later.

Anyhow, back to the topic at hand. I did find this on a google search:
http://www.hastingsmfg.com/Service%20Ti ... lation.htm

According to that, if the bevel is on the inside edge it should go up. If it is a bevel across the whole outside edge of the ring the wide side should face down. Good pics and reasoning to go with it too. Hope that helps. I will look at my books tonight and see what I find. Its either in my LUV factory manual or something in the factory book for my Trooper which should still apply.
