The gasket/seal where the oil filler cap fits in on the valve cover has broken apart on my 1978 Luv. Now the cap is slightly loose which allows oil to occassionally come out and I suppose dirt to get in.

Does anyone have a source for a replacement, or a way to fix this?

It's the grommet that fits in the valve cover that went bad. It has a couple chunks out so the cap won't stay tight in it. My local Chevy dealer looked at me real funny when I tried to get one there. He said noone has come in for Luv parts in 10 years and he didn't even have a parts book, micofiche, or anything on one anymore.

So....anyone have any ideas? I searched teh web and couldn't find one either.

NAPA, Checker, Auto Zone all have them. they were able to match mine up to make and model. but if your parts store cant find it have them look up an older 2.8L Chevy S-10

theres suposed to be a seal there?!
And in dealing whith the dealerships, GM ones are worthless. Find an Isuzu dealer and just order parts for an 81 Pu'P. All the parts asside from body work interchanges.

Hey MEPR, do you know if your Isuzu dealer can get the fancy molded heater hoses? Are they the same on 81 and earlier? I need the ones that go on the firewall if I can find them. I called the local chevy delaership.. and im sure you can all guess what they told me.. anyway we dont have an Isuzu dealer within 200 miles here so im screwed for anything Isuzu. I was hoping someone might live within driving distance of one lol

And I have no idea what grommet there would be for the oil filler cap??? I just got a new cap for mine, are you talking about the grommets that go under the bolts that hold the valvecover on?? Out of the dozens I have seen it's just a hole for the rubber cap that pops in.

OK, there is no grommet. I was going by my son's description over the phone as to what had cracked and broken. It was just the rubber push-in plug that fit into the valve cover. $4 at NAPA and we are good to go. Thanks!

Glad to hear you got it taken care of. I will remember that problem when I run into it! ;)

Thanks. Aaron.
