find a wire that runs to the under side of the intake, this should lead you to your temp sender.

Don't do what I did. I swapd the wires on the temp and oil sensor. My temp guage would first come on all the way to hot and then back to cold. and the oil guage slowlyg got brighter.

when i put my motor back in last weekend i did that. It scared the crap out of me. I start it hop out time it and jump back in for a quick lap around the block and the temp gage is pegged at hot and my oil light is on bright.

The temp sender is almost directly under the thermostat housing on the under side of the intake manifold. When you are feeling around under there, it kind of feels like the end of a bolt or something so it is a bit hard to find. If you find something sticking out straight down below the thermostat though, you probably have the right thing.
