A hammer will fix anything, or fix it to where you have to have another.

I have seen a few. I talk to the boyz at the local AAmoco Xmission and they tell me that you can get the rebuilts from a transmission reman in the area, or they can order it. But for the most part, I have not seen A LUV specialist.

You can spam: info@allisonparts.net and see if they have any in stock tho.

Or go to switchboard.com and look up one in your area. They can probably get it for you.

maybe it could be your throwout bearing on the clutch. if you only hear the noise when you put your foot on the clutch then its the throwout bearing. if it goes away when you put your foot on the clutch then its in the tranny. maybe you could get a part number off that bearing in the tranny and buy it at a bearing place, and just replace that one. it'd be alot cheaper than a rebuilt transmission. or search for a bearing kit for the luv transmission on the internet. i've never looked for it but there might be one out there.

May be the crush collar as well. Or a crush bearing.

When I replaced mine, it worked ok, but then the whine from the rear transaxle was not bearable. So I took two or three shims out of it and it was OK.

It wouldn't hurt to check/change the tranny fluid. My 76 had enough of a tailshaft leak to drop the fluid level down to the point it would make some extra noises when it got low. If it is a transmission noise, it could be running low on oil. Noisy now, but gets expensive later if not topped off.
