well i did the rear but found out i put the inner seal in backwards
Oh well it was actually perty easy to do the rear, ill just be swapping out that seal this weekend.
As far as your front end rebuild goes, there are a few parts that youll need that you might have. On the back sode of the steering knuckle there is a seal (mine was brass and it is ridged) then there is a vary small cage bearing that supports the CVs. Other than that the front end is just inner and outer bearings, one regular looking seal and ball joints. Good luck. :D

Yeah, I am gonna do the ball joints, tie rod ends, a-frame bushings, etc. I want it to not clunk when I drive down rough roads.

I turn a corner, and the front end clunks to one side. After I straighten the wheel again, it clunks back to center. It is REALLY worn out. We lived out in the boonies for a long time, and my dad drove it to work everyday. It has seen alot of rough miles.

On nearly all of my trucks they had that rear axle whine that was nearly so loud that it drowned out the radio. I could never find the problem.

Anyone else find the problem? I remember replacing the universals, taking the bearings out, re-doing the transaxle, and even replacing the transmission filters and it still whined. Is that why you are doing yours?

Rear axle whine sounds like incorrect gear mesh to me. The pinion isn't making the correct amount of contact to the ring gear. At least that is what it sounds like from behind this computer screen.

I think I tried adjusting the gear mesh as well, but those were days long gone by. I think with this truck I will pull it and do a complete overhaul of the rear axle and see if there is anything preventative that I could do before putting it on the road.

i know my my tranny makes a nice whine in first gear and reverse. But thats just normal and its barley audiable. It could be that things were just worn. I have never head anything like that before though.

I think what I will do is order the parts now and repair them when they are all in. Gives me a chance to look to see if the parts are the same before tearing the machine apart.
