the biggest diference is points. The electronic will idle smoother, give bettewr throtle response a little more powere and better econimy. When i switched it was mostly becouse i was sick of my distributor getting wet. Whith the electric one watter isnt as big a deal. When i got it on first thing i noticed was the smoother idle. Then i noticed that when merging onto the freeway there was better power in the higher RPMs and it would rev higher as well. Then as time whent on i noticed i was getting about 1mpg more. I dont remember what it cost me, but i did do a write up on it. Since the swap, i havent looked back 8)

you will need the distributor, cap, rotor and controll module from an 82 chevy luv. I was able to get mine from the locals parts store. It will run you a few bucks, so be ready for it.

my luv is a 81 and it has electronic ignition and to my knowledge thats how it came. if i remember right there is a 81 luv being parted out in the classified section. you might check and see if he will part with the ignition.

76 thru 80 has the same distributor. The 81 distributor is one digit off (the last one) from the 80 part number. Probably would fit. Then you need the control module.

The only electronic distributors are when they changed the LUV's from the pretty shapely LUV's to the PUP looking LUVs. I am taking the electronics out of somne boneyard parts and putting it into my 73 that I rescued out of the woods. I am also going to go snatch the carb sometime this week. I think it might be better to snatch the engine and tranny out and work on it then shove it in the cavities.
