If you saw my last post, you know i blew a head gasket. I blew a head gasket because an old hose cracked and leaked a good majority of my coolant out. I didn't know the coolant was gone and the engine was overheating because my temperature gauge (once i turn the vehicle on) automatically tops out all the way to the right passed the "H" . When I turn the truck off, the gauge immediately flips back to the left and passed "C" . Has anyone seen this problem before? I am about to make the drive from Greeley back to Kansas city (in two weeks so i have some time) and I'd like to be a little more confident in my vehicle. I'm also going to town tomorrow to get some new hoses. Probably should have done that a long time ago but why not wait until it costs me $200 right? Any help with the temp gauge/sending unit is appreciated it! I will keep searching the site for some sort of answer. Could be a thermostat problem?

Sounds like the temp sending unit wire is grounded out. Make sure it's connected good to the sending unit. Mine did this once and I had blindly slipped the connector on to a stud beside the sending unit. The sendng unit is under the intake manifold.

The wire to the sending unit doesn't appear to be grounded anywhere, at least not on the engine side. If i detach the yellow and black wire from the TSU, it immediately goes back to "C". Could there be something faulty inside the TSU that would be grounding it out internally? I will probably take off the instrument panel out tomorrow to see if perhaps i've grounded it in there somehow. I'll save the cussing and finger skin for then i guess. I took a few pictures with my (ghetto) walmart phone so they are kind of crappy but here's what i am looking at. As you can see the wiring job isn't exactly top notch but it definitely doesn't seem to be wired to a grounding location anywhere.

EDIT: Am i hooked up to the "oil pressure sending unit" instead of the temperature sending unit? Hell, they might be the same thing for all i know. I am just researching, walking outside and testing, coming back inside, researching, walking outside and testing... so on and so on...

Yeas, that is the oil pressure sending unit.

The temp sending unit points down from the intake manifold. It's kind of hard to see. It's vertical.

Like drummer said, it's under the intake. It's on the front half of the intake below the thermastat.

I'll have to give it another gander tomorrow in the daylight, couldn't seem to find it tonight. Hell, maybe I don't even have one!

Temp unit should be a yellow wire w/black stripe. Oil pressure is yellow wire w/white stripe.

Found it, fixed it, works great. Thanks for the help!
