hey, my luv is making some pretty wierd sounds... usually only at higher rpms, around 3000+. It sounds like the sound a loose fanbelt makes, but only at a certain rpm, and ive just replaced the belts. any theories? my dad thinks it might be the carb sucking air or something.

So is this like a squeal sort of noise? I think we may need a bit more graphic description. The more you can narrow it down, the better like if it does it only when moving or just anytime the motor hits that RPM. If it squeals as loud as a loose fanbelt, I can't think of much besides the belt that can make that sound. The stock carb doesn't make a whole lot of sound, maybe a sort of whoosh or low pitched hiss. A weber with that small square filter will make a bit more though it is still more of a whoosh/hiss.

Maybe it ain't the engine making the sounds, guys. How about a wheel bearing?

I think he might be onto something, cause, yeah, its a really annoying high pitched squealing kind of sound, and happens at that rpm regardless of gear or speed... seems to be quiet down after the engine is warm.

If that is what you need, you can take the air tub off, cut the small tubes just above the nuts then weld them shut. I have 8 that I don't need and chopped just for this purpose. I need to weld them, so if you need a set I'll get 4 welded up and send them to you...
btw that's what I have in my truck and the work very well.

Finger tightened, snugged up a half turn with a wrench and haven't thought about 'em since. Except to appreciate 'em when I look at the beat-up air manifold they relieved me of.

i took the air manifold off the g200 that i have sitting here and figured somrthing out. i tapped the inside of the plug and tighentened down the right sized bolt into them and it works great.....turns out the bad doughnut i thought i had was the air rail tips broken below the nuts on cyls 1-2

so now no exaust leak and no air rail either and no more rattle......

hey adem..... any luck?.... sorry we hijacked your thread.

OK, shot in the dark here.
Check belt tension first. Being too tight is just as bad, if not worse, than too loose. I had a high pitch squeal on my '73 Midget and found out it was the alternator fan belt being way too tight and burned up the bearings in it.
I beleive the engine can be cranked up and will run without theh fan belt on for a short time. Try this to see if the noise is still present. If it is, you have ruled out the alternator, water pump, and belt. If you don't hear it, then you have narrowed it down to those three things.
Let us know what you find if you try this so we can either press on or say, enjoy the ride!

If it was a wheel bearing it would be more of a roar. Jack up the truck, and grab a wheel, if you can wooble it or it is loose then its more than likely a wheel bearing. Are any of your fan blades bent or look out of whack, that could cause a change in pitch of the fan and cause a whinning noise as well.

the wheel wobble from side to side is going to be a problem in steering linkage.
wobble from top to bottom (grab top and bottom of wheel and rock it in and out) and if there is any wobble, its wheel bearings.

(learned that from my dad)
