Clutch has been giving me some concern...had to tighten the cable a few times, but when I noticed the pedal starting to lean left, I got down to look under the dash and found the mount starting to bend. Ah, my turn to do the bracket rebuild. I thought I never would need to do this, as there was already a big shiny weld on it when I got this LUV and I figured I'd been taken care of. Not the truth, cracks along the welds actually weren't visible until I finally wrestled it out.

It took an hour, maybe a little more, and it wasn't easy. I removed the clutch pedal, and the brake pedal. I tied up the clutch cable to the hood support so I could spray penetrant and lubricant and have it work down the cable while I was working under the dash. I took the instrument panel out which makes access possible by allowing the wiring harness to be lifted out of the way enough for removal of the bracket. After removing eight bolts on the bracket, it was time to start wrestling the thing out and I finally succeeded. The Izusu part #5-53251022-2 is clearly labeled; I haven't checked yet whether is still available or not. I'm going to weld it up and put it in again; that's another post!!!

A new cable is $24.99 at AutoZone, (Part #CA-415). I'm going to go ahead and try the same cable for awhile.

Your clutch/brake pedal bracket will continue to break, untill you relieve the stress caused by the diff.
While your welding the clutch/brake pedal up throw some good welds on your diff centre like in the picture below.

No reason to be a wanker just when I haven't been on LT for a long time and decided there might be some who would benefit from the things I've written. So Ozzie you take your own foolish advice and do what you want with it. Then come back and check out the good quality repair I've done.

Hopefully it takes less attempts and involves a lot less photography than you rebuilding an engine...

BTW John...don't forget to paint it a nice pretty shade of bright yellow when you finally get it all to work again.....lol

Actually that's not a bad idea...painting the bracket yellow would make it more visible if I need to go under the dash again. And Rick, just think of all the appreciation others have for the photography I do. It takes time to upload the photos and then post them; I doubt I spend that much time replacing the bracket.

BTW: It's a new Kodak Z1012 IS 10.1 MP camera, too!

i've been working on vehicle for a long time and i don't see how welding the gears would do anything for the bracket bending under the dash, imo the bracket needs to be braced a little better thats all

Hey Fullaluv, something I have been meaning to ask you from seeing some of your excellent photos in the past--How come your fan blades are on backwards? Does the engine still say cool that way?

Fan blades backwards?? Oh I hadn't noticed!!!! My engine has never overheated since the last rebuild, and the oil pressure hasn't diminished either.

I finished the bracket repair, and photos are on the way. I can't believe the difference in the clutch!!! It's so smooth it's almost hard to tell the difference between the free play and the clutch pressure.

Thank you for the compliment. Too bad some folks lack the same appreciation, but they don't own this website.

With out naming names that would be a great "what is wrong" photos. Years ago when I worked as a mechanic in a gas station, we had something similar come in. Guy was going to save money by doing his own water pump. We did'nt charge him much for fixing it. Boy was he embaresed.

I think how large you imagine that number to be is liable to be highly disputed by quite a few folks around here John.....lol

No you're right John...they don't own this site.

They just support it, believe in what it's about, and respect it and all of it's members (especially the other long term ones) enough to not go around begging them all for spare parts, wasting a lot of Ben's bandwidth by posting tons of pointless unnecessary pics, bragging constantly about their many little minor accomplishments, acting like they know way more about automotive technology than everyone else here, and constantly bickering with all of the people that have been here since day 1 that it first opened supporting it and keeping it going....and that have been owning and working on these little trucks (successfuly btw) for a very long time.

I for one have no problem with any of the long term members here personally at all. They have been extremely supportive asset in my life and a huge help in assisting me with fixing up not just the current truck I'm driving - but also the others I've previously owned. They have been there constantly every day 24/7 365 days a year to cheer me up when life was tryin' to kick my butt, and to keep me grounded and focused when I was starting to get a little full of myself and/or beginning to step a bit out of line.

All things considered...to me they're a very great bunch of folks that I am very proud to say I've been hanging out here with for nearly 6 years now.

Here's the finished repair. I added a plate three times thicker than the original sheet metal. Clutch is solid as a rock now. I only got 19 photos on this thread. Hope most of you out there enjoy them.

That is some truly astounding looking welding. I was able to notice this by the sharp, in focus pictures. That camera is amazing! How much did it cost the state...

Yeah although if you weld the pinion to the ring gear like Oz suggests then you can forget using the clutch all together !  I've heard of "Ox lockers" I guess this is an "Oz Locker"

Being as fullaluv's reinforcement looks a bit excessive, here's how I fixed mine, same problem:

I don't have a problem with him, but a few things he has written have offended a few others (and frankly, I don't think he's going to get any help anytime soon). He doesn't take advice very well, but that's all fine and good, because he documents what he does rather well (he can find his mistakes later). And sometimes people just don't understand his sense of humour (I definitely don't).

I might be kicking myself for bringing this thread back if we don't keep the discussion to an automotive level. So, let's keep this devoted to clutch pedal brackets and their repair/replacement.
