Hello,
First what kind of engine is it? Diesel or gas?(1.8,1.9,2.2,or 2.3). If it is gas than I can give you some advise. I made a ram air intake for my 79 luv. That helped a lot. Then I removed all the old factory exhaust pipe and scrapped it. Had a muffler shop copy the bends of the factory exhaust so it would fit,but made it out of 2" exhaust tubing. Used a flowmaster muffler. All of this combined really brought my tired 1.8 to life. After driving it for a while I removed the carb and rebuilt it. Added bigger jets and a few more mods to it. Took the truck to the 1/8 mile track and raced it. I made a 12 second pass. I thought that was pretty good for my little Isuzu engine. hope this helps.
Mike

8) Well Tomluv34 you can change out the camshaft for a bigger one. I'll have to find the thread, but there is a company that custom make/grind you a high lift cam. There is a lot of potential in the Hitachi carb. Believe it or not,but I can pull a 16 ft car trailer loaded using my 4x4 luv with all the adjustments listed above in my other reply. The truck pulls everything just fine, however I'm glad the trailer has brakes. The stock brakes don't stop that well.
Correct me if I'm wrong, but your luv has the eletrical distributor/not points? I'm just tring to think of way to help you.
Mike.

Go for a Weber, a header and a Pertronix ignition with a Flamethrower coil. Excellent power and response. Still get 24mpg consistently in town. (no freeway driving at all).

And if you decide to go with a Weber carb and you decide you want an Offenhauser intake, let me know as I have the intakes for sale brand new from the factory.
