Tractors are supposed to sound like tractors. LUVs are supposed to sound like lawn mowers.

(I better talk nice. I'm driving mine to work tomorrow and it might get mad at me and break down)

Someone else removed the smog, I'll look for the smog rail, is it around where the pump was. someone drilled holes in the exhaust pipe just before the muffler, and I can feel a small leak around the donut, I think.

It finally unthawed from the ice storm, I removed a 4ft 2in thick sheet of ice off the hood sunday..LOL

not sure what works the best ... any of the high temp paint would work great or powder coating would also.... the valve cover was just a normal silver with a thin red coat over it to give it a candy paint or cherry paint look

I'll check these out, I thought that was for fuel injection and someone put on a different head.:) they bent the tubes over on mine, I'll check for leaks, what would you use to replace what they have done, what kind of bolts?
Quit posting pic's of your engine, I'm getting wood.....

The easiest way is to unscrew the fittings for the tubes, wack the tubes off and chuck them and the whole damn rail in the trash with the rest of the worthless smog crap, thread the centers of the fittings with a tap, and then beat feet down to the hardware store and get a set of hardened allen head bolts and copper washers.

Then screw the fittings back in the holes in the head, and use the allen bolts and copper washers to plug them up.

That way it isn't noticable...and you have a nice tight permanent seal.

BTW...when you start yanking off all of your smog crap...make sure that if you pull out the ugly studs left sticking out everywhere on the head...that you use copper washers on the bolts you use to replace them...or you will have trouble getting them to to seal...and you might just create a small but messy oil leak.

Gorgeous engine! I'd be doing good to get mine looking half that nice.

I enjoyed the engine video. I don't pick out anything abnormal, but that's me.

I used Chromillusion paint on mine after I sanded it down to bare, shiny metal. I also did my breather cover to match, even though most of the time it isn't on the truck.

I fired it up today, and checked the bolts and none were leaking, but the donut was, I think I will take it into the muffler shop and have them replace the donut and fix the pipe where the other owner drilled holes in the exhaust pipe. the say the best way to take off the nuts from the exhaust manifold is to heat them cherry red and then burp them out with a impact so they don't snap off. I wish a header wasn't so high, i'd just get one.
