My carberator is leaking gas. But it is leaking at the float chamber. I have tightened all the screws as tight as they can go but it still leaks. I had someone tell me that it was because of pressure inside the carb. If so how do I relieve that pressure.

A stock carb has a gasket around the float bowl cover. It may be the problem. You didn't mention if you have the stock Hitachi or an aftermarket Weber

It's a black rubber gasket that in the kit looks like a large "O" ring. There's a groove for it to fit into, and it's easy to replace. Watch out; there's a brass spacer on the shaft that the float bowl pivots on, and you better not lose it. It shouldn't fall out on it's own.

It's good to have the sight glass clean so you can check the fuel level in the float bowl.

These carburetors should not be soaked in acid bath; rather clean with a spray can or two of carb cleaner. They have a special finish that you lose with an acid bath.

Just another theory, but you could have a clogged return line, the smaller hose hooked up to the carb. Pull it off and see if you can blow air back through it.

It still should not leak there, but that might be part of the problem. I would expect it to pour out the overflow tubes that hang out over each of the barrels of the carb if it was pressurizing the bowl. The needle valve should hold to. Sounds like you need the new gasket for the bowl cover plate either way, but you might check out some of the other parts that could be related.

You'll have to be a bit more descriptive. What brand of carb, what year and engine size Toyota motor.

It seems that most would avoid trying to fit another type of conventional Japanese carb because of the electrical curcuit (run on solenoid, coasting richer). Not knowing the details of the Toyota carb and what kind of circuits it may have. An adapter plate may not be reasonably made to fit. And the linkage could be totally reverse to each other.
Most would take the time proven plan of installing a Weber 32/36 DG series carb. Everone will tell you that the Weber is the hot setup for a stock or modified LUV 1.8 engine.
