well, i got the carb back on my truck again today and it pulled it's same 'ol $hit again, running for about 35-40 secs after it warmed up and acting like it ran out of gas. the gen light came on to but it always has even when it did run and after it ran for a little while it went off, so i think its normal, just recharging the battery. the only conclusion i can come to is that the fuel pump and/or relay is bad. so tomorrow i will carry my happy @$$ back to the part store and get an aftermarket fuel pump and the wiring to wire it up. anyone know a good circuit to wire it to? i really don't wanna go straight battery because of the risks. ya know, leaving it on, having a wreck and it "fueling the fire" or any other number of things. so anyone got any input to this?

thanks,
Gettin Frustrated a.k.a. Josh

Several companies sell an oil pressure switch that is used for a safety shut off for the electric pumps. Check with Summit or Jegs.

On an electric fuel pump, an oil pressure switch is money well spent. That sucker WILL pump your tank dry and feed a fire in an accident. One idea is to tap it off the line side (power feeding)of any fuse, and add an aftermarket fuse immediately. Or tap into the power feeding the fuel relay. your wiring diagram may even allow you to delete the relay, and bingo- take that fuse.

or get a used relay from a junk yard- I had to.

Hey 4x4  ,

I have an aftermarket pump- makes a huge buzzing! i thought it would bug me until I realized the noisier the better. Fire off my bad v8 and that buzz is dwarfed by everything else. just adds to the package.

HERE I COME!

On that note- anyone else have people roll up windows when you pull up to a light!?

it sounds like you got air into trhe system. You will need to bleed the air out. Some diesels have a bleeder screw on the pump or a small lever that is used to evacuate the air. My best advise is to contact a diesel mechanic. I have a F350 that would cut off going down the road, The mechanic I got was worth his weight in gold! That truck never ran so good! I know very little about diesels, just enough to mess them up, I guess. Good luck
