Would an alternator overcharging cause the battery to want to boil over? Also charge light comes off and on or in and out. Checked all grounds and the alternator was a little loose fixed that, things where fine but started all over again after about a 1/2 hr

Your voltage regulator might be the problem, but for me I have never had a battery boil over before so I'm not completely sure.

I would say regulator is sticking in the full charge positition. Also be careful around that boiling battery. It's basically a bomb, along with all the gasses around it. 8O One spark can ruin your whole LUV. :D

It could be the battery itself. You could have a dead cell and the charging system is trying to compensate for it. The other 5 cells are being over charged because of the one dead cell.
Play it safe and get the battery tested.

Boy have I ever been there and done that.

And that is exactly why I don't buy cheap alternators, cheap voltage regulators, cheap batteries, or thin flimsy cables with crappy bolt-on terminal ends.

Having one battery blow up in a work truck way out in the middle of nowhere and darn near scare me to tears years ago taught me very well the importance of a good solid reliable charging and electrial circuit.

And any circumstances that nearly cause me to soil my britches tend to get my undivided attention and leave a long lasting impression in my poor old tired memory.

You see...I may be dumb...but I do catch on slow....lol
