okay guys, its been awhile since ive shown my face, and since then ive got everything on my truck ready to go. but it won't start. i just cleaned the carb. it has fuel, and the pump is woking. it does spark but im thinking that the spark is not enough. it's like the engine trys to turn over but won't. So, im thinking; is it the coil? perhaps? just changed the points, rotor, dist. cap. please input what you think. like i said its getting a yellow-orange spark. shouldn't it be blue? maybe spark isn't strong enough? thanks.

I'm gonna take a geuss, swap out your coil->Dist. wire w/ a good one, of a buddy's car or use a plug wire, and see if the spark changes. The guy that bought my 81 4X4 gas had the same problem, he had checked everything and was sure it was the coil contoller box thing, they went and bought one but it was ordered, ran him around all afternoon to find a new coil controller. After dropping him off and calling him the next day his buddy simply took a coil/dist. wire off his yota onto the LUV and it fired right up.

welp, as of yesterday, i got my lil truck running! its been 6 months, this was my first engine rebuild and it was a success. so this is a thanks to all of you guys for your generous input. the problem was a number of things by the way. i replaced the coil, rotor, cap, points, ... etc...

i pulled the valve cover, and the #1 sparkplug was firing on TDC. BUT it was TDC of exhaust stroke not combustion! :P so i just switch the spark wires... EYEBALLED the rotor/dist. alignment! and it started right up first try! my heart had to be put back inot my chest! im still stoked and soo happy about it! also, my coil had a condensor running off of the external resistor! the book only referred to two condesors, one on the dist. the other on the regulator. so i removed the one on the resistor, and that just might have contributed to it's lack of combustion!

so this was my first rebuild. i learned so much. and the result was worth every second, and all the effort. of course not excluding the effort and help of each one of you. so thanks again! i can't wait to help someone here like YOU helped me. Aaron.

:D
