 Post subject: front axle

i have a '80 luv 4WD, and i was replacing the cv joints and the axle spline. the front spline fell off at the bushing but i dont know how to get the longer spline out of the front axle. is there a pin in the front differential or what? bare with me i am new at this.

There are four bolts around a large steel cylinder. Take those four bolts out, and the rest of the axle will come out too.

This will also loosen the front end housing so be careful and support it with a jack. Hope this helps :wink:

on top of wht grimmace said you will have to unbolt that sides braket fron the frame (there are 2bolts on the top of the braket). The braket will come off whith the axle. There will be a bearing a seal and 2c-clips you will have to transfer over to the new axle. Take your time and make shure you have everything put on the right way.

there is a white plastic plug on top of the axle tubing. what is that for?

that is a breather, the axle has breathe. good luck on finding those outer bearings in the axle, i looked all over with no luck.
