the redline adapters tend to come loose about every couple thousand miles.... when you bolt down the conical bolts (allen head) use a little loctite on the threads

That's the sign of a vacuum leak.

Are you asking if the plate has to go in with a certain side facing up? Are you thinking you installed it upside-down?

Im not sure about the Luv adapters, but I do know if you buy a weber kit with an adapter plate, you need to make sure the base of the carb is flat and the adapter plate itself was flat. I installed a kit on another rig and I had to flatten the base of the carb and the adapter plate because they were warped, brand new. Im not a huge fan of the weber stuff. When you look at the groove, it should be pretty straight foward. When you put it up to the base of the carb and look at it it should really look good one way and be off a little another way. I dont think it would matter a whole lot though, because its still letting air and fuel down the intake. If its backwards though it might not work as efficiently though.... I dont know this is just the experiance I had with a similar engine and I think I know the groove your talking about.

Well, its been awhile since I did mine and Im no expert by a long shot, but if I remember right one of the holes is smaller then the other, either the primary or secondary. The adapter plate, if I remember right, has a little hole and a bigger hole with the groove. Just put the adapter plate up to the base of the carb and try and line up the holes.
