I'm going to put in a CD player. THe wiring is pretty straightfoward from the diagram on the back of the cd player. However I'm not sure what wire to use off the wireness as the power wire.

It looks like the original power to the radio was a lavender colored wire. However, check with a volmeter or test light, key on or accessory position.

The original will work for the "ignition on" circuit, but you will need to find a fused "always hot" wire for the stereo to keep the clock and presets saved. You can find an already fused hot wire, or just a hot wire from something else, and install your own in line fuse.

I ran my secondary directly to the battery with a fusible link.

The first wire tha comes to mine that is always hot, is off the headlight switch.
NLUV suggested using the hot wire off the ignition switch.

I think I went off the ignition on one of mine, and my son and pals did the 78 and went to the battery.

I bought it used, so I dont know the wattage. There is a 15amp fuse on the back of the deck.

It's probably 50x4 or something like that. Which means it probably does 20 watts rms per. If you do a search for the model number, you can probably find all the specs on it.
