nthe10s-

you posted that you tried the NOS on the launch. OK. did you ever run it for the whole quarter? Why not if so. what was your time. what hp were you jetted for. 8)

I launched it, shifted to 2nd gear and the car shut completely off! Something shorted out the ignition. It coasted through the 1/8 with a 6.68@89mph. I had this motor in my Vette that weighed 3300lbs. and it ran 9.90@138mph. The luv is 300 lbs. lighter and leaves just as hard as the Vette. The luv could easily run 9.70@140mph. i had a 150 horsepower jet in the NOS cheater plate. I have since taken the NOS off and been working on a new combo to run 10.6-10.7 on the motor on 89 octane gas. This is my girlfriends truck and it is getting too fast for a street car.

Hmmm. I always thought vettes were supposed to be heavy rigs. the luv was supposed to be a small light truck. Only 300 pounds difference?!?

a couple of years ago i took a load to the dump in my "pre v8 luv" ( if only i had known) and ran it over the scales and it weighed in at what I thought was about 2200 lbs. Sounds like your saying they run about 3000 lbs. Interesting.

i know under the vettes fiber g body is supposed to be a really thick, strong, heavy frame.

I am bummed- 3000#'s is a lot of weight to push. Anyone ever get their truck weighed?

One more thing- why did you take the kit off.

Reason I'm asking is we hear all the warnings about N20 and I know a v8 can take an occasional shot. I have a sniper that Ive run around town for kicks- jetted at about 75 mainly. I plan to run it up to 150 ONCE this spring at the track. i'd hate to trash something though. thats why I saw your post and figured id ask.

I dont plan to run it all the time. I beleive that it is a cheap add on, although a fun one, and believe real acomplishment is to gain bigger horsepower through things like stroking and turbo charging. I plan to stroke the luv next summer

At one time, mine weighed 2990 without me in it.

Since then I've probably removed about 100lbs.

3000lbs. isn't too bad for a street/strip car. My buddy has a 77 Camaro that weighs about 3750!

mine weighs 2780 without me in it , runing a 150 shot is fun but you said you dont want to break any thing .i would MAKE SURE that you have enough fuel pressure to go with that much n2o,i would put a fuel pressure switch on it to make sure that it does not run out of fuel pressure, if that happens that is when parts break !!!!! ask inthe10s

one more thing ,if you get fast enough- 7.49,1/8- 11.99,1/4 you need more safty equiment, roll bar, driving suit, stuff like that good luck
p.s. not that hard to start going that fast with a 150 shot [100 hp is about
1sec in the 1/4 mi]

Our truck weighs 3000lbs. with driver. We also have a roll bar, 20 gallon fuel cell, 2 batteries, 100lbs. of lead bars. I took the nitrous off because my girlfriend races the LUV. She doesn't need this much power. It runs 11.0 on motor with 89 octane fuel. It will run about 10.6-10.7 in a bit. I run nitrous on every car I own. I run a 300 horsepower unit on my Vette. You should be able to run 125-150 all day long if you have forged pistons and a decent set of rods. Retard the timing a few degrees and run good gas. Don't be greedy with nitrous!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

This is sort of getting of the subject but in the late 80's I was running a 100 hp boost on a VW rail buggy.I used a oil pressure switch at the feul selonoid and wired it to where if the fuel pressure droped it turned the nitrous off.Just look in the parts books and they list pressures and normally closed or open. You may have to find a above average parts person because most people at parts stores now know very little.
You can buy kits to do it now .Lack of fuel pressure is probably the # 1 cause for engine failure.I also had a switch on the oil pressure and I never had any problems out of my system and loved it.
I am planning on starting with a 100 shot on the RATNLUV next spring.
But only after I see what it does on all motor first.

I installed an oil pressure switch on the fuel pump, I have this idea some day Ill crack the truck up somehow and the fuel pump will just keep pumping. If there was a fire..... 8O A big ol pile of charcoal would be my next stop. Nice thing about it is its right behind the distributor, so you can jump it with a screwdriver an prime the fuel system anytime you want.

thanx for the tip with the n20 , though.
