Is it possible to change a 4wd into a 2wd? What all is involved in the swap? I am planning on getting new front suspension anyways, so is the rest the same as the 2wd? Has anyone done this before? Thanks,

Jess

I'd think that if i were to tackle such a mod, i'd remove everything down to the frame and install a new, aftermarket front end. Getting specific, stock front end parts will be more hassle than it's worth. And besides, if your going to put such an effort, you can eliminate the torsion bars by going with a coil-over setup.
If your set on having a stock-type, 2wd front suspension, I would then suggest that you sell/trade the truck for a 2wd. The value of a 4wd could be a benefit when working a deal.

yeah I've got a 2wd, and 4x4ing would be fun, but I can't really afford two running trucks. lol.

yeah I'm definitely planning on getting the mustang II front suspension anyways since stock stuff is such a hassle. BTW to anyone that has done this before or just knows: does anyone know how much the front cross member is going to be? I am paying $300 for the mustang II, is that a good deal?

What about the rear though? How are 2wd and 4wd different?

thanks

There are kits that can be had for as little as 800.00 To over 1600.00. So 300.00 for a donor seems like a good deal to me. You'll most likely need to rebuild everything all the way across (wheel bearings, ball joints and such) You should hunt down RatinLuv and ask him how he installed his Stang II clip. As for the rear axle, there's no major difference between 2 and 4wd. Just that the ratios are different (4.56 for 2wd and 4.10 for 4wd and automatics)

if I get one, sure. As of now, I haven't bought one, I was just wondering how difficult it would be to change it.
