I Changed the vin tag on my truck and didnt have any problems. The only tag on mine is located on the door jam. When I took it to the courthouse the lady only asked where the vin# was located at and she wrote the numbers down...The only reason I had to swap mine was because I used a cab and doors off a different truck...So you have the title in your name and tags on it?? If so i dont see any problems. Just switch em....

should just be an issue of drilling out the rivets.

well, i can drill out the rivets fairly easily, just use a bit small enough to drill out the middle of the rivet then screw a dent puller (w/small bit) into the rivet and one good slam will yank it out.... i was just wondering about the one under the windshield valance....

The one under the cowl near the windshieldis stamped into sheet metal, not a tag. Not much you could do to swap it short of a torch and weld job, or swapping cabs. It is completely covered by the cowl so I would think not much of a worry for licensing purposes. In fact, unless the cab is stolen and somebody wanted to verify, I doubt it would ever come up.

The one on the frame near the tank, is that stamping into the frame or just painted on? I've yet to run across that one and it seems like someone here was looking for another spot the VIN might be found that is permanently marked. My 79 has the remnants of the vin painted on with a stencil on the outer side of the frame rail just behind the passenger side door, but it is usually unreadable or painted over I think.
