straight axle =

Inferior Front Suspension =

straight axle is good for flex and strength, IFS is good for nothing...

straight axle:
-less moving parts
-cheaper to lift
-easier to maintain/adjust

IFS:
-Expensive to maintain
-good for fast offroad driving (ie. rally and desert racing)
-expensive to lift.

What do you want to know about the two?

Well, IFS is good in the respect that if your right wheel is lifted, it will not affect the left wheel, when offroading (camber). I went up a pretty gnarly rock ridden hill not too long ago and my truck did REALLY well. I like the IFS...

I feel it is worse on sidehills because it tips your body further in the direction of rolling. I have wheeled both, and i have now gone further tipped on my side and felt more comfortable on some STEEP sidehills, more-so thatn i did with the IFS, even my friend who recently SAS'd his yota. says he feels more comfortable and he is a biut more timid than me. the problem with IFS is that both sides are always puching down regardless. unlike a SFA, that allows a pivot point and a lower center of gravity

toyota front end = $400 stock (best bet, same lug pattern)

Dana 30 = $150 stock (cheap, but have to do more mods)

Dana 44 = $250 stock (mass amount of aftermarket support, make sure to get the chevy 6 lug pattern)

another option would be to go with a FJ60/62 front end...same setup as the Toyota min axle..except it's lots beefier

those are just standard prices i have found through research over the past 5 years, they are jsut average, obviously the more built the more it costs, but these are just based on finding one that someone has sitting around that came out of their truck stock, and they upgraded to something else or some other reason. But you can generally find them for those prices on a local forum or craigslist you just have to know that you are looking for. For example i, can tell you with utmost confidence, that a stock toyota front axle is around $400 complete hub to hub. I found my HP dana 30 for $75 complete stock (i have over $1000 into it now  ) , I found my dana 44 with no shafts or outers for $150 with brand new gears and a spool, i jsut took my outers/axles from a 10 bolt front and put them on it.

The prices were just for getting a rough estimate of the initial cost, it will cost more, I usually figure about $1500 base price for a completed/driving/operating solid front axle swap. The price goes up from there, depending on quality of parts, etc...

I would personally put a dana 60 in the front and a 14 bolt in the back, but they are a bit pricy and hard to find. Front 600, back 450.
