I tried motor oil and it ran out like water. Guess I'll have to change the rear trans seal. Does anyone know how big of a job this is and I called a parts store about a seal they had 2 differant ones. How do you tell the differance between a g180 trans and a g200 trans? I think thats the trans numbers he told me but im not sure

If this is the oil seal at the rear of the trans where the driveshaft comes in, this is not a bad repair at all. Just did it maybe 6 months or so because mine was leaking. It's a round seal with a spring on the back if that's it. I got mine at Napa. Drained my tranny, unbolted the driveshaft at the rear, slid it out, pulled out the old seal and put the new one in. The shop manual said to use a special tool to install with, but I used a piece of PVC pipe to install my new one with. I don't remember what size pipe. Whatever it was, I just cut it off square and tapped the new seal in with it until it was seated. The PVC was a perfect fit.

There will be someone else around who can tell you how to tell which tranny you have. I would guess g180. I don't remember them even asking me that question.

Edit: Just figured out we were talking 4x4, mine is a 2wd, don't know if that makes a big difference or not since I don't know crap about 4x4s.
