the "getting rid of it" is the easy part. it'll take some time, if you have everything and know what you're doing (aside from building driveshafts) it should only take a weekend or two of hardcore cutting/fabbing/welding

so you are going to keep the stock drivetrain... i would suggest maybe a toyota axle(prolly the best in stock form aside from Barfs :P uhh i mean Birfs maybe a D30 or D44. as far as springs go you have MANY MANY options,......did i mention many? it really depends on what you're looking for. are you looking for soft with lots of flex, stiff for jsut lift and appearance or a mix of both on and offroad capabilities (DD action)??? as with all this stuff comes thinking ahead. something of which im getting better with as the projects cycle. but one thing you'll wanna think about is steering, are you wanting the J-arm(OK not real flex friendly) "Y" (Good) crossover steering(better) or crossover high steering (best) i can show you pics for examples of this stuff and maybe show you what i've done. to help you better decide what route you want to actually take. 8)

Go here http://toyotalinks.com/ and look around for solid axle swaps. I know it's all about Toyotas, but it should give you an idea of what you are in for. In all reality, you will be doing all the same things to your LUV, you'll just be using different measurements! :D

I'm partial to Toy axles myself. Hell if you could find a donor Toy you could swap out the entire drive train ( engine, tranny/t-case, and axles) this would give you a bunch more power, and if you went 82 or newer, a 5-speed!
