i was planning on crankin my bars 2.5 inches, and puttin blocks in the rear, my question is, does anybody have blocks in the rear, or do u use extra leaf, or what?? Also I plan on a 2" body lift. I have a 79 4x4 with 28" mudders and this thing is a beast, my wife has a jeep with 4 inch lift and 33's and I can go where she does anyday! I love my luv-

The springs are under the axle on the LUV so blocks lower instead of lifting. For that the amount of lift you're talking, go for longer shackles and/or adding a leaf. You can reweld the spring perches and put the axle below the springs but that would get you around 5-6 inches of lift and you can't crank the torsions enough to match that in the front.

Shackles give half their added length in lift. So if you use shackles 2 inches longer than stock, the truck will sit 1 inch higher.

That said, I'm not sure how much is too much shackle really. My 4x4 had springs that had been rearched or were from a different vehicle with stock shackles. Somebody else want to chime in here with more experience, how much is too much shackle? For 2.5 inches you'd need to add 5 inches the length of stock shackles, which seems a tad long to me.

Blocks = BAD :lol:

that being said, try using a longer shackle or finding a lift spring out of a toyota or something else with a little more arch.

I noticed you're in Washington. Where in WA. are you??? If I'm close enough maybe i can help you out a little 8)

I rebuilt my leaf pack by adding a couple 3/4 ton chevy leaves, it rearched them enough to give me 3 or 4 inches of lift.

Be careful with tall shackels, you can change your pinion angle too much and you could start eating U-joints.

ya, good point trooper, you could always correct it with some shims though if need be, maybe check your pinion angle before you get too involve and try and re match it when you're all done lifting it.

That is sort of what I was thinking. Longer shackles are ok to a point, but not to extremes. I had not thought about the pinion angle being the reason, but would be the reason not to go too far with shackles alone.

I was thinking about using the springs out of an Isuzu trooper when I get around to building up my 4x4 LUV. I'd like to swap in an Isuzu 12 bolt rear anyway, and with the heavier Trooper I figured that should be good for an inch or two of gain.

Wow, I was thinking of the same thing...and come to find out that '88 Trooper springs will provide some lift (after measuring them I guess about 2" or so) and also swapping in a 12 bolt or a D44 out of a 91-97 Rodeo
