If you live in a climate where fall and winter are cold (0-30 degrees) than keeping the fuel pump warm is only better for operating your diesel truck. I remember one time in the winter where it was really cold out and I had a hard time starting my truck. I got it started and then proceeded to drive it down the road, went about 4 miles and then it began to loose power and I didn't know why. Turned out the diesel fuel in the tank was geled up because of the cold and I wasn't getting fuel to the engine. Had to wait later in the day during the afternoon to drive it, after the day warmed up I got back in and it drove regular. Finally, the fuel filter is located above the injection pump and pretty close to the passenger side of firewall.
