TRUE STORY FROM . . .

"THE HOUSTON HERALD NEWSPAPER"
IN HOUSTON , TEXAS
MARCH 5th, 2009
~
Last Thursday Night Around Midnight,
A Woman From Houston, Texas Was Arrested,
Jailed, And Charged With Manslaughter
For Shooting A Man 6 Times In The Back
As He Was Running Away With Her Purse .
~
The Following Monday Morning,
The Woman Was Called In Front Of The
Arraignment Judge, Sworn In,
And Asked& To Explain Her Actions .
~
The Woman Replied,
"I Was Standing At The Corner Bus Stop
For About 15 Minutes, Waiting For The
Bus To Take Me Home After Work .
I Am A Waitress At A Local Cafe . . .
~
I Was There Alone,
So I Had My Right Hand On My Pistol,
That Was In My Purse, That Was Hung
Over My Left Shoulder .
~
All Of A Sudden I Was Being
Spun Around Hard To My Left .
As I Caught My Balance, I Saw A Man
Running Away From Me With My Purse .
~
I Looked Down At My Right Hand And I Saw
That My Fingers Were Wrapped Tightly
Around My Pistol .
The Next Thing I Remember Is Saying Out Loud,
'No Way Punk! Your Not Stealing My
Pay Check And Tips'.
~
I Raised My Right Hand, Pointed My Pistol
At The Man Running Away From Me With My Purse,
And Squeezed The Trigger Of My Pistol 6 Times!"
~
When Asked By The Arraignment Judge,
"Why Did You Shoot The Man 6 Times?"
~
The Woman Replied Under Oath,
"Because, When I Pulled The Trigger The 7th Time, It Only Went Click."
~
The Woman Was Acquitted Of All Charges .
And She Was Back At Work,
At The Cafe, The Next Day!

Now that's Gun Control .

Perhaps we can cut her some slack for not realizing the gun was empty due to the stress of the moment.

God bless her and I am glad things worked out for her but what we really need is more judges like that.

We need more people like her to defend themselves.

The other thread is getting a little tense, so I will put this here instead... If someone thinks it should ease things up copy and paste it.
======================================================================
Clint Smith, Director of Thunder Ranch, is part drill Instructor, and part stand up comic. Here are a few of his observations on tactics, firearms, self defense and life as we know it in the Civilized world.

"The handgun would not be my choice of weapon if I knew I was going to a fight....I'd choose a rifle, a shotgun, an RPG or an atomic bomb instead."

"The two most important rules in a gunfight are: always cheat and always win."

"Every time I teach a class, I discover I don't know something."

"Don't forget, incoming fire has the right of way."

"Make your attacker advance through a wall of bullets. I may get Killed with my own gun, but he's gonna have to beat me to death with it, cause it's going to be empty."

"If you're not shootin', you should be loadin'. If you're not Loadin, you should be movin', if you're not movin', someone's gonna cut your head off and put it on a stick."

"When you reload in low light encounters, don't put your flashlight in your back pocket.. If you light yourself up, you'll look Like an angel or the tooth fairy...and you're gonna be one of 'em pretty soon."

"Do something. It may be wrong, but do something."

"Nothing adds a little class to a sniper course like a babe in a Ghilliesuit."

"Shoot what's available, as long as it's available, until something else becomes available."

"If you carry a gun, people will call you paranoid. That's ridiculous!!.. If I have a gun, what do I have to be paranoid for."

"Don't shoot fast, shoot good."

"You can say 'stop' or 'alto' or use any other word you think will work but I've found that a large bore muzzle pointed at someone's head is pretty much the universal language."

"You have the rest of your life to solve your problems. How long you live depends on how well you do it."

"You cannot save the planet. You may be able to save yourself and your family."

"Thunder Ranch will be here as long as you'll have us or until someone makes us go away and either way it will be exciting."

More Excellent Gun Wisdom....... The purpose of fighting is to win. There is no possible victory in defense. The sword is more important than the shield, and skill is more important than either. The final weapon is the brain. All else is supplemental.

1. Don't pick a fight with an old man. If he is too old to fight, he'll just kill you.

2. If you find yourself in a fair fight, your tactics suck.

3. I carry a gun cause a cop is too heavy.

4. When seconds count, the cops are just minutes away.

5. A reporter did a human-interest piece on the Texas Rangers. The reporter recognized the Colt Model 1911 the Ranger was carrying and asked him 'Why do you carry a 45?' The Ranger responded, 'Because they don't make a 46.'

6. An armed man will kill an unarmed man with monotonous regularity.

7. The old Sheriff was attending an awards dinner when a lady commented on his wearing his sidearm. 'Sheriff, I see you have your pistol. Are you expecting trouble?' 'No ma'am. If I were expecting trouble, I would have brought my rifle.'

8. Beware the man who only has one gun. He probably knows how to use it!

If you believe in the 2nd Amendment, please forward. 'The true soldier fights not because he hates what is in front of him, but because he loves what is behind him.'
-G. K. Chesterton

"A people that values its privileges above its principles will soon lose both." DDE

'Those who hammer their guns into plows will plow for those who do not.'

~ Thomas Jefferson

i find it interesting that she got away with it, i mean i can understand her shooting the man, but 6 times? one or two shots i would ithink is more than enough to put a man down. why did she continue to shoot the man. im not saying the man didnt deserve it but 6 shots i would thinkis overkill(excuse the pun). and the fact that she would have continued to shot the man had she not run out of ammo.

Do you think she knew for sure that she hit him? lol, I think that's a wonderful example of excellent shooting.
Honestly, if somebody mugged me like that, I would forget how many times I had shot too. 8O :esurprised
She'd've eventually quit shooting. It doesn't exactly take long to figure it out. Stories like this one prevent crime!

A untrained civilian, and a woman too. What would you except her to do. Handgun training for a handgun carry license does not train you on to wound a person or how many shots to shoot. As long as she had the carry permit ... The old saying is it is better to be judged by 12 people than carried by 6 people.

If it went to a grand jury, it was their responsibility to charge her or not. If it was the DA he had to think if it was a winnable case. She did go before a judge. If you had a couple of women on it, you would mostly not get a unanimous verdict. Plus a lot of men would also agree with the not guilty vote.

A cop has different rules to live by.

A man mistook his fiancée for an intruder and shot her dead the day before their wedding.

Many US households keep firearms in case of an intruder, which can result in tragedy.

John Tabutt told police he seized his gun because he thought he heard someone in his Florida home.

Thinking it was his live-in partner was in bed, the 62-year-old fired at a figure in a dark hallway.

He discovered too late he struck Nancy Dinsmore, also 62, who he was due to marry the very next day.

Tabutt called 911 in the early hours of Friday, moaning and sobbing, according to local newspaper reports.

'I thought I had an intruder in the house,' he told the emergency operator. 'Honest to God, she looks dead.'

A 'distraught' Tabutt stood by while his fiancée was pronounced dead at the scene by paramedics, according to police.

He has not been charged with any offence and officers said everything pointed to a tragic accident.

The couple planned to wed in a small ceremony at St. Stephen Catholic Church in Florida's Winter Springs, Ms Dinsmore's son-in-law Scott Sposato told the Orlando Sentinel.

'They loved each other,' he said. 'It was quite apparent.'

He made a MISTAKE that will no doubt haunt him for the rest of his life. A very bad, serious, with the ultimate price being paid MISTAKE. Hunting accidents happen, people go rock climbing and lock in an anchor that gives away and kills their climbing partner, cars fall on people in garages because the didn't adequately support them, a fan blade flew off a fan on a car while back while a mechanic was diagnosing it...hit him in the throat and killed him. I could go on and on. The guy mentioned above will no doubt have to deal with the results of his actions for the rest of his life and unfortunately a woman is dead. An innocent woman like all the others is gone. He killed her plain and simple using bad judgement, the gun was simply a tool of incident/accident just like the rock anchor, the car, and the fan blade. In our country we have self defense classes with handgun training. PEOPLE (attending the class here in Great Falls MT) are taught never to pull a weapon unless you intend to use it, only fire at who you intend to KILL. The instructors DO NOT TEACH to shoot in the leg or only fire once or twice. Shoot to KILL. The reason women kill more people in situations like the one starting the article than men do is because they hold the gun with both hands which automatically keeps it centered and they shoot for center mass. Pull the trigger until it goes click. I have alot of possessions in my house as everyone does ranging from garage sale items to irreplaceable family hierlooms (sp). I have to right just like the woman did to protect myself, family and posessions with deadly force and would do so. I keep two loaded pistols in my house. I would pull the trigger until the breech locked open and the barrel was glowing red from heat. Reload and repeat if need be. Right or wrong, if I'm not put in that situation I will never kill anyone. If the individual had not stolen her purse, he would more than likely still be alive today. In the end we will all answer for what we do in this life.

:signiagree I was taught the rule of 3- two to center of mass and 1 to the head. I will protect my family and myself and shoot to kill, not wound, not stop, not slow down to KILL.
If you break into my house here is whats waiting for you- A Smith & Wesson .357 combat magnum loaded with 125gr hollow points (98 percent one shot stops) or a 12 gauge pump shotgun loaded with shells that contains a slug surrounded by 5 00 buck pellets. If you catch me in the mall parking lot, you will be staring down a snub nose smith loaded with +p ammo.
Remember the only dirty fight is one you loose.
GUN CONTROL MEANS HITTING YOUR TARGET!

thats all well nd as long as you identify your target before you gun them down, like the old man, i see that as poor gun control. just like people who go out shooting foxes here and shoot there own dog because they didnt identify the target.

I did not know who it was, so I sicked my pit bull on them and he killed her. Same rules, different weapon.
More to the question is, why he did not know where she was at... Was he coming down from drinking too much... Viagria hangover? Thinking his live-in-partner was in bed.. I just feel next to me and I know.. Reach on my bed and you are not supposed to be there, and you will come up with a dog attached. If you wake up and just start shooting down the hall the man needed to let his spouse keep the gun.

With gun ownership comes responsibility. Nothing in life is free. Freedom is not free. If you have kids in the house you don't shoot 12ga slugs around the house. I don't live in the north where it gets real cold. I do keep a .22 with rat shot in it. OR .357 shot shells in the pistol then regular ammo.

I used to make my own load with the small long round parts of needle bearings in them, along with some shot...
I my house was built in 1893 and you could not blow a hole in it with a 12ga. 100+ year old cypress solid plank walls. No sheet rock.

You can shoot as many politicians as you can if they are in season.
