has anyone heard of putting coil overs in place of the shock absorbers with stock luv suspension? i noticed a guy in the pics place it looked like stock sway arms and stuff with coil overs. i need to get my truck lower in the front my torsion bars wont go low enough (4+4 to 2 wd conversion ) so i thought maybe i could put coils in to get more options short of spending alot of money like with mustang front suspension. also my rear suspension is getting coil overs so that would be cool to do the whole thing.

Mine has coilovers on the front, but it doesn't have the torsion bars now. That should get it down where you want it.

When I had my LUV I had bought QA1 coil overs and somebody on this site, who also has since sold his truck, sent me a set of top brackets to weld in the stock pockets. Part # 3855P shocks w/7-350 coils. You can buy some bolt on brackets from a circle track place or ebay just to get the placement easier and then give them a couple tack welds. The bottoms bolt in like the original shocks. Then you can ditch the torsion bars, cut off the brackets and even shave some metal off the shock towers around the edges to get rid of some weight up front. I dumped the pics I had of my truck and the other guys set up when I sold my truck.

This brake thread shows the coilover set up on my truck somewhat...

I don't know what the part number is on mine, but if you click on the threads in the above posts and, compare, the shock on my truck is shorter. When we fab a suspension, we make the top mounts to fit the shock we are going to use. As long as the compression and rebound are adequate, you can use whatever you find.
