Without getting into a turd-flinging debate, Who's running what on their V-8 street engine. I'm running full manifold vacuum advance to my distributor.

I'm curious to see how things stack up.

ive always ran the dist off the ported port on the carb.

it should probly be run off ported vacuum. With full manifold your always pulling advance. I have done this with engines before it just means you usually set initial timing a bit lower is all.

I run mechanical but if i run vac adv then I run ported vacuum or lock it out completely and use the MSD dial to retard for startup.

It must be ported. As you go to WFO you actually have no or less vacuum in the manifold. So if you timed it with manifold vac, you will release the vac advance and retard your timming, the only advance you would have is mechanical.

Here's a link to a .pdf file that covers this subject in detail. It helped me zero in on my particular configuration. Now im not saying that any of you are wrong about your advance setups, but the info is worth reading to fine tune your motor to your application.
