To me this sounds pretty off the wall but one of my friends was telling me about a golf cart company that does or did use ford 9 inch rear ends that are 26 inches wide from axle flange to axle flange. He said he couldnt remember the name of the company but he also said there was another company building golf carts that used a chrysler 8 3/4 rear end. I havent researched it yet but Im kind of curious about it. does anyone know anything about this?

This is true. But understand the axel's and gears are not up to par for the V-8 stuff. Also, my 9 inch is 30.5 inches from flange to flange and running 17 inch outside to outside frame I barely had enough room to install the ladder bar's. The axels in the carts are 4 lug so you will need axels, carrier gears brgs and such. Not really a way to save money in my own opinion.

Currie. They started building 9" rears for golf carts, and that grew into their current business. Not sure what all brands they were in though...
Check here Currie for a history of the company...

I just heard about the 9 inch in the carts through a friend of mine I didnt even believe him when he told me so I was just curious is all. sounds like it would be more trouble than its worth on top of needing every thing other than a housing I heard Taylor Dunn golf carts weld up the filler plug and install them upside down. I figured something like the story I was told wasnt as good as it sounded anyway.

I've seen Cushman carts with a 9 under them on the local college campuses. The gardners and janitors drive them around to pick up trash. some of them have 8" under them too. they are EXTREMELY narrow though. probably way too narrow for a LUV.
