oh damn i thought you were running a 4speed i musta got you mixed up wtih somebody else. the 480/280 cam will work ok with a stock stall but will totally scream with a 2800-3500 stall behind it. the one they recommended will work fine with a stock automatic but would also benefit from a looser converter like 2500-3000 you really have to plan on what you will do in the future too. with a cammed and tunnel rammed 327 a high stall converter is a must anyway. consider your future plans for the motor when choosing a cam too.

Yeah I plan on getting a better converter I just dread the pulling out the motor and trans part of it. When I get to the converter swap I will have to figure out how much stall speed I will want to go with. I want the loosest converter I can get by with and still be somewhat streetable. I dont care how much of a pain its going to be to drive on the street as long as its still possible, I dont plan on driving it on the street everyday since since the tunnel ram kinda limits me to fair weather driving only. So far from what I have seen on the one short trip I made, it reminds me of my old yz 125 I had when I was a kid the power was either on or off and has the potential to cause problems with wet road conditions.

I'm not sure how ur motor is in there but I used a hooker kit to install mine and i am able to unbolt the trans and slide it back enough to get my converter out. its obviously harder to get a stock diameter converter out vs a 8" or 10" but i can still be done. there i believe you have to slide it back and cock it off to the side a little to drop it out. better if you have a buddy to help you too. I have holes drilled in my trans tunnel to hit the hard to reach bellhousing bolts with a rachet and an extension too.

As far as the loosest converter you can get and still run on the street. well thats really open to interpretation. I know pple (including myself) that run a 5500-6000 on the street in a weekend warrior type of car. thats really pushing it because the 8' converter makes a lot of heat and its not the most practical thing in the world when you're running $$$ race fuel. most would recommend a 2800-3000 but you can run a 3500-3800 and it would still be practical. my daily driver 4th gen camaro had a 3200 in it and i drove it 80 miles a day for years.

putting a 480/280 cam into your motor with a stock converter will kinda make it feel like a yz 125 when your idling around and crack the throttle... nothing on the bottom end and as the RPMs build it will rip your arms out. 480-280 cam with a say like 3500 stall will have you 1000 rpms deep into the 2500-6500 power band.

let me know what you decide on your cam. I'd be interested to hear which one you go with and which one works out for you the best.

I have actually thought about taking a small hole saw and cutting out the hard to reach areas for the bell housing bolts. I had a friend in high school do it to one of his cars for the freez plugs. Im not sure what cam Im going to pick at this time I have a few other things putting it on hold right now. As far as the converter goes 3000-3500 would probly be the range I am looking for most likely 3000 would suit my needs just fine. After going to the luv meet this weekend and watching LUVNIT spin his tires all the way down the strip I am also thinking I could go for a set of super wide sticky tires narrowed frame, nine inch and 9''.

I had the xe268h. very streetable. 280/480 is the all time sbc cam. If you have anyu stall at all go with the 274. They are being conservative. My 268 in a 355 barely had a lope. Lunati has some cool grinds in the new VOODOO, series worth looking into.
