im doin a head job on a 93 ford escort. The book says to toss the old bolts and get new ones. Well i didnt toss the old ones and its probably a good thing because I have called every auto parts store in town and the ford dealership and none of them supply the bolts anymore. Any ideas? Will the old ones work?

yes they will still work.......alot of manufactures say to replace the head bolts b/c they are designed to streach after you torque them down. therefore not giving a absloute correct torque reading next time.

but i have reused them before w/ no problems......admittely never on a escort tho

well today i finally did the head job on my car. The machine shop had to take about 15 thousands off it...is that a lot? After getting everthing back together and putting the valve cover on i realized how much the head had actually warped...the valve cover does sort of a teeter totter thing now if the bolts arent in. Anyways, i finally got it to fire up but it now immediately dies after starting it. Also it sounds really loud like an exhaust leak. Maybe i didnt tighten the manifold down hard enough on the new gasket? I didnt use the torque specs for the manifolds but im pretty sure i got it fairly close. There was no way i was gonna fit the torque wrench in such tite places...any ideas?
