Well,

Today while the wife and I were eating at a nice family restaurant (Vince's in Upland, CA), someone broke the window on our van and stole my laptop bag from behind the seat. I think they were after the GPS on the center console, and once they got in they found the laptops. It was fricking 3:45PM, with people coming and going from the restaurant. I parked on the side of the lot that faces Foothill Blvd, the busiest street you can imagine. And no one saw a thing!

For those of you that don't know, I'm a PLC programmer for a living. My laptops are my livelyhood. I had $2500 in special cables and communcation cards in the bag to get online with different PLC's. Now some son-of-a-bitch has them all along with my two Dell D820's and a brand new Cybershot I bought last month.

Oh, and they grabbed what they went in for, my new Garmin Nuvi 255W that I got for Christmas from the wife.

I think I'm still in shock. People used to joke that the laptop bag was my purse. I had everthing in it.

The laptops have fingerprint scanners so the dumbass isn't even going to be able to use them.

The moral of my story? Don't leave your GPS sitting on your center console or dash, EVER! Last year it was the number one reason for vehicle break-ins. If they wouldn't have gone in to get my GPS, they wouldn't have found my laptop bag.

Oh, and $205 to fix my window too.

Thats sucks bad. Sorry to hear about that. My dad has a GPS and when he uses it he puts it on his dash not stick it to the windshield. He was telling me that when you stick it to the windshield and then take it off the suction cups leave ring marks on the window. Then those idiots see that and they will break into your car looking for it then. Hope everythings works out for you Ben.

Sorry to hear man.
BTW, can you send me your finger tip? JK.

No insurance. We thought it was covered under the vehicle, but since AIG bought 21st Century, somehow that got lost in our policy. So now I have to look into that, but apparently if I switch to commercial insurance, I can insure things inside the van. Kind of a crappy way to find out.

Dell is actually pretty cool about it, and they are supposed to help me get the serial numbers and stuff to the Sheriff. They also are supposed to let me know if anyone calls in trying to bypass the fingerprint reader or get support on either system for some reason.

I doubt I'll ever see them again, but I was going to hit a few of the pawn shops in the area tomorrow.

We've learned some lessons too.

Gonna get commercial insurance on the van.

Gonna get an alarm with a glass break sensor on the van.

Gonna hide the GPS if I get another one.

And last, but not least, not going to assume that bad things will not happen to you, just because you don't do bad things to other people.

Not to hijack the thread, but that AIG insurance sounds like they are a pretty crappy company. There is a big company in CR, Ia that is sueing them since AIG is trying to screw them over on the claims since the flooding last summer.

Hope everything works out for you Ben.

Ya, we loved 21st Century. Then some time last year AIG bought them and they haven't been the same.

I'm getting the feeling that if we do have to make a claim, they will try everything they can to get out of it.

I feel for you Ben. I fucking hate thieves.

Last year when my Blazer got ripped off we lost around $750.00 worth of stuff of mine and my daughter's that was inside and that wasn't covered because of our old insurance agent's screw up when he wrote the policy on it. We immediately filed a complaint with our insurance company, switched agents, and changed our policy.

Sounds like it's definitely time for you to go shopping for a new insurance company. I hope your pawn shop searches turn up something and they catch the thieving bastards.

I don't get out that way very often.

If you happen to visit a pawn shop around there, let me know if you see any Dell D820's.

Sorry to here about the theft. That makes my blood boil. It's been a while since I've sent payment for help on the LUVTruck site. Maybe it will help. It's not charity, it's for the hard work you put into this site. I was going to do it anyway. Good luck on the insurance.

Danm that sucks. I always have GPS in my center console but there is a bag that covers it up when its not in use. I work in network services at a school. And i understand what you mean about your laptop being your LIFE! Sorry, and good luck finding it.
